Regarding the activity of [the six perfections]: Just as there are six types of generosity, similarly, each of the perfections from discipline to wisdom also has six aspects, which should be applied accordingly. This is the meaning. How should they be applied? They should be applied from "the generosity of discipline" to "the wisdom of discipline." In this context, not harming others' wealth, life, or spouses, and giving the gift of fearlessness is the generosity of discipline. Abstaining from killing, stealing, and so forth, and maintaining discipline is discipline itself. For those who abide in discipline, not scolding back when scolded, not striking back when struck, and so forth, is the patience of discipline. Constantly maintaining discipline is the diligence of discipline. Always focusing the mind on discipline is the meditation of discipline. Discriminating between what is a transgression and what is not is the wisdom of discipline. Similarly, for patience, those who abide in patience, not striking back when struck, and so forth, giving the gift of fearlessness is the generosity of patience. Those who abide in patience, not engaging in actions such as killing, is the discipline of patience. Even if others cause harm, not becoming angry is the patience of patience. Constantly generating a mind of patience is the diligence of patience. Not being distracted by anger is the meditation of patience. Seeing that harming other sentient beings will cause them to experience suffering in the future is the wisdom of patience. Similarly, for diligence, helping and supporting other sentient beings is the generosity of diligence. Striving for virtue and not engaging in non-virtue is the discipline of diligence. When striving for virtue, enduring cold and heat, and so forth, is the patience of diligence. Rejoicing in virtue is the diligence of diligence. Not being distracted by laziness is the meditation of diligence. Those who have exerted diligence will come to know and distinguish between the characteristics of virtue and non-virtue, which is the wisdom of diligence. Similarly, for meditation, through the power of meditation, eliminating calamities and diseases, and so forth, removing harm and

Generosity is the generosity of meditation. When the mind is one-pointed, not thinking of killing is the discipline of meditation. Meditators are always gentle in mind, and not having the conflict of hatred arising is the patience of meditation. Not abandoning one-pointedness of mind continuously is the diligence of meditation. Having one-pointedness of mind on the object is the meditation of meditation. The Dharma to be meditated upon being clear in the mind is the wisdom of meditation. Regarding wisdom, explaining other dharmas without inversion is the generosity of wisdom. Those with wisdom, knowing what should be taken and what should be abandoned, and not entering into what should be abandoned is the discipline of wisdom. Rejoicing in the mind when the nature of the Dharma is not mistaken is the patience of wisdom. Being delighted in listening and thinking, etc., is the diligence of wisdom. Regarding the nature of the Dharma being not inverted, thinking "it is not mistaken" and not being distracted in mind is the meditation of wisdom. Knowing the self and general characteristics of all dharmas without inversion is the wisdom of wisdom. It is said that sentient beings are completely matured by the objects that gather the perfections, that is, the six perfections are established as the nature of generosity, sweet speech, consistency, and beneficial conduct, and that sentient beings are completely matured by these is the second of joy and attention. How are the perfections established as the principle of gathering objects? Among the six perfections, generosity is generosity itself. When the six perfections are explained to others, it is sweet speech. Arranging other sentient beings to practice the six perfections is beneficial conduct. Whichever of the six perfections sentient beings are arranged to practice, the practitioner himself also practices those same six perfections, which is consistent conduct. Offering is said to be enjoying gain and respect through generosity. The rest are offerings of practice. There are two kinds of offerings to the Tathagata: material offerings and offerings of practice. There are also two kinds of material offerings: offerings of gain and offerings of respect. Among them, Dharma robes and bowls
