Because all phenomena are directly seen by (Tibetan: བས་, Sanskrit Devanagari: vasa, Sanskrit Romanization: vasa, Chinese literal meaning: by means of) all dharmas. Also, protect the teachings, as it is said. The Tathagata practiced various kinds of hardships for countless three kalpas, and the reason for attaining enlightenment is also to teach the sacred Dharma. Even after becoming a Buddha, the activity is only to teach the sacred Dharma, and the sacred Dharma that is taught only remains in the world for a long time, so one should pay special attention to protecting the teachings, so it is not appropriate to leave them unattended, this is the meaning. Also, in time, With unobstructed wisdom. As it is said. The Tathagata's wisdom is not only knowing the past and present times, but also understanding how all things of the three times change without attachment and obstruction, so it is not reasonable to leave unattended without prophesying the fears that will arise in the future teachings, this is the meaning. What is said to be existent, non-existent, and non-existent. Or, this Hearer Vehicle is the Great Vehicle, and one can attain great Bodhi by this, some people say so, therefore, in order to prevent the Hearer Vehicle from being the Great Vehicle, this verse is composed. Above it says, if there is a Great Vehicle, then there is also the Hearer Vehicle, and if there is no Great Vehicle, then there is also no Hearer Vehicle. Why? If there is no Great Vehicle, then there is no one who attains unsurpassed Bodhi. If one does not attain unsurpassed Bodhi, then no one will teach the Hearer Vehicle, so it becomes non-existent. As it is said. Some Hearers say that the Hearer Vehicle is the non-self of the person, and it accomplishes the perfection of self and others, this is the Great Vehicle, because by accomplishing this cause, one can attain unsurpassed Bodhi. How to obtain it? If one cultivates this Hearer Vehicle with sharp faculties, then one becomes a Buddha. If one cultivates with medium faculties, then one becomes a Pratyekabuddha. If one cultivates with inferior faculties, then one becomes a Hearer. Thus, to those who argue, this verse is composed to show that the Hearer Vehicle is not the Great Vehicle that accomplishes the perfection of self and others. Incomplete, etc., meaning the Great Vehicle

If the characteristic of the Mahayana is to perfectly accomplish the benefit of oneself and others, then the teaching for the sake of others will not arise from the Hearer Vehicle. Because the Hearer Vehicle teaches the methods of becoming weary of oneself, being free from attachment, and becoming liberated, the work for the sake of others is incomplete, so this Hearer Vehicle is not a Dharma of the Great Vehicle, that is the meaning. If the Hearers say this: If I, being weary of myself, free from attachment, and becoming liberated, explain the meaning of my own liberation to others, then others will also become liberated, becoming for the sake of others. In that way, the Hearer Vehicle itself is the Great Vehicle. To that, the answer is said to be because it is contradictory. Because some Hearers teach others the Dharma that will bring benefit to themselves, teaching that if they do this, they themselves will become liberated. Then, those who listen will also strive for their own nirvana, and will not become enlightened to unsurpassed enlightenment for the sake of sentient beings, so it is contradictory to becoming for the sake of others. If the Hearers think this: If one meditates on this Hearer Vehicle for three countless eons, one will become a Buddha; if one meditates for a hundred eons, one will become a Pratyekabuddha; if one meditates for three lifetimes, one will become a Hearer. If one meditates on this vehicle for a long time, it will become a method of enlightenment. To that thought, the Buddha said that it is not a method, so the word "non-method" was spoken. The method of attaining unsurpassed enlightenment is great wisdom and great compassion. Great wisdom is the wisdom that understands the selflessness of persons and phenomena. Great compassion is the thought of thinking to liberate all sentient beings of the world from suffering. These two do not arise from the Hearer Vehicle, so the Hearer Vehicle is not a method of unsurpassed enlightenment. Even if a non-method is practiced for a long time, one will not become enlightened. For example, even if one milks a horn for a long time, milk will not come, and even if one kneads sand for a long time, butter will not come. Therefore, the Hearer Vehicle is not a Dharma of the Great Vehicle, that is the meaning.
