It is called "meditation," and since it is done with correct speech, it indicates correct speech. The so-called "meditation" refers to the state of abiding in the precepts that the noble ones desire. The precepts that please the noble ones are called "precepts desired by the noble ones," which means abandoning the ten non-virtuous deeds from killing to wrong views, and naturally abiding in the ten virtuous deeds, which is called "precepts pleasing to the noble ones." The state of entering into abiding in these precepts is called "meditation." In this way, it is done with the correct end of action, so it indicates the correct end of action. The so-called "meditation" refers to the state of universally practicing contentment. Not seeking more than what is said in the Vinaya, such as the alms bowl and robes, and being content, not living by flattery and deception, is called universally practicing contentment. Therefore, it indicates the correct livelihood. The so-called "meditation" refers to the state of being accustomed to the path previously attained through meditation. From the stage of faith to the first ground, through meditation, special diligence increases at the time of the first ground, which is called the path previously attained through meditation. From the second ground to the tenth ground, becoming accustomed to this state of specially increased diligence is called "meditation" of being accustomed to this state. In this way, it is done with correct effort, so it indicates correct effort. The so-called "meditation" refers to the state of not forgetting the sign of the Dharma abiding. Dharma is the completely pure realm of Dharma. Focusing on this Dharma itself is called "abiding." When focusing on the realm of Dharma, not forgetting the three signs of the antidote to dullness and excitement is called "meditation" of the state of not forgetting the signs. In this way, it is done correctly, so it indicates correct mindfulness. The three signs are the sign of calm abiding, the sign of emptiness of insight, and the sign of equanimity. When the mind is excited, meditate on the sign of calm abiding to pacify the excitement. When the mind is dull,

At the time of elevation (of the mind), one should remember the sign of praise and generate joy in the mind. When (the mind) is sinking, dull, having abandoned excitement, and the mind is equanimous, one should remember the sign of equanimity and keep the mind unmoving. When the mind abides, without signs, and transforms into a state of abiding, this is called meditation. In this way, because the mind becomes one-pointed, sinking and excitement will not arise. To counteract them, one does not fixate on or dwell on the three signs, and this is called the mind abiding without signs. Thus, the very meditation on the signless is called meditation on the state of transformation into abiding. Because one is separated from the previous state accompanied by sinking and excitement, and one has attained the state where sinking and excitement do not arise and the mind truly abides, it is called transformation into abiding. Like this, because it is practiced with correct samadhi, this shows the correct samadhi. Up to this point, the eight limbs of the Noble Path have been explained. Someone says: There is no explanation of the nature of the path of cultivating shamatha and vipassana. Now is the time to explain the nature of the path of cultivating shamatha and vipassana. There is nothing to explain about these two, meaning that there is no need to explain. Why? Because the attention mentioned above, and the attention that will be explained below, all completely belong to the category of shamatha and vipassana. Since they are all included in shamatha and vipassana, there is no need to explain them separately. Proper attention is of two types: eliminating bad places and eliminating the signs of views. The attention that eliminates bad places and eliminates the signs of views is called proper attention. It is divided into two types through eliminating bad places and eliminating views. Among them, there are two types of bad places: bad places of the body and bad places of the mind. Among them, bad places of the body are non-virtuous actions such as killing, taking what is not given, and sexual misconduct. Bad places of the mind are desire, hatred, etc., which are the causes of committing all non-virtuous actions, and are factors that disturb the mind. Understanding the selflessness of phenomena eliminates bad places. Aggregates
