Because it contains everything, it is called "Pitaka." Or, from the phenomena of aggregates, elements, and sense bases, to the body and wisdom, etc., it contains all the meanings that should be known, therefore it is called "Pitaka." Why are the three pitakas established? Therefore, it is also considered to be for nine reasons. As it is said, if the three pitakas are established, then because there are nine reasons, it is considered that the three pitakas are established, that is the meaning. What is the need for establishing the three pitakas? Therefore, it is said "liberation," the three pitakas are established in order to liberate sentient beings from samsara, to obtain nirvana, and to obtain Buddhahood, so the three pitakas are established, that is the meaning. How can one be liberated? Therefore, it is said: "Habit, knowledge, pacification, and complete realization." It means that what enables liberation is the wisdom of listening to the three pitakas, contemplating, and meditating, which enables liberation. Among them, the wisdom of listening can form habits. When listening, because it can plant the habit of faith and understanding that arises from the pure cause of the dharmadhatu. The wisdom of contemplation enables understanding. Because how one contemplates, one can realize those meanings. A person with the wisdom of realizing the Dharma enters into meditation, and after entering into meditation, one can obtain the characteristic of shamatha samadhi. With the power of shamatha, one can pacify the afflictions, meaning that it can destroy the afflictions. By obtaining samadhi, the mind becomes one-pointed, and the wisdom of the characteristic of vipassana will arise. With wisdom, one can realize the truth as it is. Realizing the truth, one can eradicate the afflictions to be abandoned by the path of seeing and the path of meditation from the root, therefore one can be liberated in this way. Because of the nine reasons, it means that there are three kinds of afflictions, namely, the affliction of doubt nearby, the attachment to desire, and the affliction of attachment to self-fatigue, and the affliction of the view of self nearby.

The five afflictions, in order to eliminate those afflictions, the three baskets are taught, that is its meaning. The antidote to doubt is the Sutra, it is said that for those who doubt the dharmas such as the skandhas, dhatus, and ayatanas, the Sutra Pitaka is taught as an antidote to these afflictions, that is its meaning. How does it become the antidote to doubt? Therefore, it is said, "For whatever one doubts, the skandhas are taught to eliminate doubt." "Whatever" refers to whatever person. "Things" refers to the skandhas, dhatus, and ayatanas, as well as the things of dependent origination, truths, grounds, and the self and common characteristics of the perfections. Doubt is having two minds, wondering "is it or is it not?" The meaning of eliminating doubt is to eliminate the doubt about those things, and in order to ascertain the nature of the Dharma, the Sutra is taught, that is its meaning. Vinaya is the two antidotes to the faults of following the two extremes, meaning that the Vinaya Pitaka is taught as an antidote to the afflictions of the extreme of following attachment to desire and the near extreme of following self-torment. How does it become the antidote to the faults of following the two extremes? In order to show that it becomes the antidote to the extreme of following attachment to desire, because it prohibits all actions associated with wrongdoing, it is said to be the extreme of following attachment to desire. Attachment to desire is when one violates the precepts that the Blessed One does not allow, goes beyond the training, and universally enjoys various kinds of possessions and so forth in order to make oneself attached and satisfied, like householders who are attached to desire and so on. Its antidote is to prohibit all actions associated with wrongdoing, not allowing them to be practiced. Among them, the actions that cause defeat, offenses, and misdeeds are called actions associated with wrongdoing. Prohibiting those actions is also in these and these.

He forbade non-practice and admonished that one should be careful, respectful, and diligently protect the learned verses. Because it is to cut off the extreme of indulging in one's own comfort, in order to follow what is blameless. Having said "the extreme of indulging in one's own comfort," what is meant by following what is blameless? It refers to the Blessed One's permission to use implements such as the alms bowl and Dharma robes. This is to counteract the suffering of one's own body by the ascetic practices of non-Buddhists who lie in ashes and thorns, and eat food like dogs and cows. Therefore, it is also said in the Vinaya: The Blessed One allows monks who have morality and virtue to eat food with a hundred flavors, and to use clothes worth hundreds of thousands, and clean houses. In short, even if one eats food with a hundred flavors, if there is no attachment and pride, then that is blameless practice. If one eats wild vegetables, but has attachment and pride, then that is sinful practice. Even if one wears clothes worth hundreds of thousands, if one practices without attachment and pride, then that is blameless practice. If one uses old dusters, but if there is attachment and pride, then that is sinful practice. The Sutra says that it is an antidote to the pride of self-view, for those who have heard little, have not heard much, and only with a slight knowledge of the Dharma, arrogance arises, and clinging to inverted views and precepts, not seeking much learning from virtuous friends, this is called the pride of self-view. To counteract it, the meaning of Abhidharma is explained. So, how does it become an antidote to the pride of self-view? Therefore, it is said, "In order to show the nature of the Dharma without inversion." Because in Abhidharma, the self-characteristics and common characteristics of all dharmas are explained without inversion, and if one can obtain it, one can understand the nature of the Dharma without inversion, thereby views and precepts
