And, showing that the aspiration of the Bodhisattva is superior to the aspiration of the world and the transcendent, and then showing that the aspiration of the Great Vehicle must be practiced. Among them, the first verse briefly shows the meaning, and the rest of the verses explain that meaning in detail. Among them, the aspiration of the desire realm and the aspiration of the sentient beings of the form realm, and the aspiration of the sentient beings of the formless realm, are called the aspiration of the world. The aspiration of the noble Hearers and the aspiration of the solitary Buddhas are called the aspiration of the transcendent. "The desirous one is like a dog." This means that those who are attached to the five desirable qualities are called desirous ones, and in reality, the aspiration of the desire realm is like the aspiration and mind of a dog. "The meditator is like a tortoise." This means that the aspiration of the sentient beings who are attached to the four meditations of the form realm and the four attainments of the formless realm is like the mind and aspiration of a tortoise. "The one who works for his own benefit is like a servant." This means that the aspiration of the noble Hearers and solitary Buddhas who have entered for their own benefit is like the mind and aspiration of a servant. "The one who works for the benefit of others is like a king." This means that the aspiration of the Bodhisattvas who benefit others is like the mind and aspiration of a king. This briefly shows the meaning of superiority. From this onwards, that meaning is explained in detail. What is the dog of the desirous one like? Therefore, just as it is said, "The dog is afflicted by suffering," it is connected to "Similarly, lust." For example, a dog always thinks only of food, and because it focuses on food, it is afflicted by suffering. Similarly, lust, that is, sentient beings who are in the desire realm and are attached to the objects of the five desirable qualities, always focus only on that, and therefore are called afflicted by suffering. "Always hungry and never satisfied." This means that, in addition, a dog always has the nature of being hungry, that is, it does not know the satisfaction of food. Similarly, those who are attached to the qualities of the five desirable qualities are always

Even if one enjoys the qualities of the five desirable things with the mind, it is like drinking salt water, there is no end to satisfaction, so it is said to be like the mind of a dog. How is a meditator like a turtle? Therefore, just as a turtle shrinks and stays in the water. This is what is said, connected to "abiding." For example, although a turtle lives in the vast ocean, it does not stretch its limbs, but shrinks its limbs in caves and crevices, contracting itself within its own body, similarly, those who meditate on form and those who abide in formless absorption also contract their minds and mental factors inward, and because there is no wisdom to enter into the selflessness of persons and the self and common characteristics of knowable things, which are as vast as the ocean, it is said to be like the mind of a turtle. Or, these sentient beings are content with merely attaining meditation, samadhi, and absorption, without attaining special qualities, and without merely realizing the four truths, so it is said to be like the mind of a turtle. How is doing things for oneself like a slave? Therefore, just as a slave is always fearful and afraid, with the body, this is what is said, connected to "one's own benefit." For example, if a slave goes against the master's mind or words, he will be punished and harmed, so he always dwells with fear, serving the master with his body, walking and dwelling around the master, similarly, although the hearers and solitary buddhas have realized the selflessness of persons, and have also realized the self and common characteristics of phenomena, they do not have thoughts like a turtle, but because they focus on their own benefit, they are always fearful of the laws of samsara, and even if they slightly violate the precepts established by the Tathagata, they will contradict the teachings, or they will be destroyed, so they are only constantly guarding, and do not do things for others, so it is said to be like the mind of a slave. How is doing things for others like a king? Therefore, how does a king rule the country and
