Trusting in things like these, which occurs in the past and arises in the present, is called 'arisen trust'. Trusting in karma and its results, and believing that it will arise in the future, is called 'unborn trust'. Trust is a mental factor. The strongest trust among mental factors is trust in the Mahayana teachings. Taking it as an object, believing 'this is indeed true', and thus developing faith and trust, is called trust. This is inner trust. Trusting in things like karma and its results, taking trust and past events as objects, and generating joy, savoring the 'good' taste of trust that arose earlier, then rejoicing and being very happy, is called trust to be grasped, which shows external trust. When trust and faith arise from the teachings taught by a virtuous friend, it is called trust obtained from a companion, which is coarse trust. When trust arises from one's own seed and lineage of trust and faith, it is called self-trust, which is subtle trust. Trusting and believing in the doctrines of non-Buddhists, who say that there is a self and sentient beings, is called wrong trust, which is bad trust. Trusting in the teachings of the Tathagata, which explain impermanence and suffering, is called unerring trust, which is good trust. When all the causes and conditions for the arising of trust are gathered, and trust arises, it is called manifest trust, which is near trust. When the causes and conditions for the arising of trust are not gathered, and therefore trust does not manifest, it is called other, which is distant trust. Relying on a virtuous friend and listening to the Dharma, from which trust arises, is called trust that uses sound. How to investigate the Dharma that has been heard with the four kinds of wisdom, the trust that arises in the mind and mental factors is called searching trust. Through meditation, the trust that arises from understanding the meaning of the Dharma is called the trust of view. Even if trust has arisen, but if it is led astray by demons and non-Buddhists, and the trust changes, it is called stolen trust, which is small trust. Occasion

And faith also arises, and lack of faith also arises, for this, it is called faith that is also mixed with impurities, this is the medium faith. Only faith constantly arises, and lack of faith does not arise, the faith is called faith that is not mixed with conflicting qualities, that is great faith. Sometimes faith also arises. Faith in the Dharma of Hearers and Solitary Buddhas is called narrow faith. The various Dharmas of the Great Vehicle are called vast faith. From the Ground of Faith Practice to the Tenth Ground and below, for the attainment of superior qualities, from afflictions such as desire, faith that has obstacles is called obscured faith. For the attainment of superior qualities, faith that has no obstacles is called unobscured faith. Faith that has reverence and constantly arises without interruption is called possessing faith. Faith that has reverence and is constantly interrupted is called non-possessing faith. On the first ground, the ground of faith practice that becomes the cause of realizing the Dharmadhatu, accumulating merit and wisdom for countless eons, is called faith that accumulates merit. Faith that does not accumulate merit and wisdom for countless eons, which is the cause of realizing the Dharmadhatu, is called faith that does not accumulate merit. The faith of Bodhisattvas from the first ground to the seventh ground and below is called abiding faith, because there is no decline or deterioration in faith. The faith of Bodhisattvas from the eighth ground to the tenth ground is called long-lasting faith, because there is faith that possesses spontaneous accomplishment without discrimination. Regarding the obstacles to faith, there are three verses, of which two verses show the nature and detailed classification of faith, and then three verses separately explain faith, those show the meaning of obstacles and hindrances. Many non-attentions, for the faith that arises, many non-attentions become obstacles, why? Because faith arises in the past and present times.
