Like the drum that arises from the merit of Indra from the earth, when Indra is immersed in the virtues of the five desires, without anyone striking it, it emits a sound that makes people rejoice in the five desires, and it emits a sound that is in accordance with it. When Indra retreats from the virtues of the five desires, without anyone striking it, it emits a sound that makes people want to retreat from the virtues of the five desires, and it emits a sound that is in accordance with it. This is like a metaphor. In order to clarify the meaning, it is said, "Thus the Victorious Ones speak without outflows, and all dharmas arise in the same way." It means that, just like that metaphor, the Tathagatas abide in the realm without outflows, and in order to benefit sentient beings, they preach various kinds of Dharma, but they do not have the thought of "I will preach the Dharma" in their minds, nor do they need any effort or seeking, but they naturally preach the Dharma. In order to show the benefit of sentient beings naturally with the metaphor of the wish-fulfilling jewel, it is said, "The wish-fulfilling jewel is without effort, and its light naturally appears." It means that, for example, light emanates from jewels such as wish-fulfilling jewels, and the jewel does not think, "I will emit light," nor does it need any effort, and the light naturally appears. In order to clarify that meaning, it is said, "Thus the Buddhas are without discrimination, and they show various actions." It means that, similarly, when the Tathagatas show the manifestations of body, speech, and mind in order to benefit sentient beings, they do not have the thought of "I will do such manifestations," nor do they need any effort, but they naturally show the manifestations of body, speech, and mind. This shows that the Buddha's actions are naturally accomplished. The third and fourth verses use the metaphor of space to show that the Buddha's actions will not stop. In order to show the metaphor, it is said: "Just like in space, the actions of the world appear without interruption." It means that the actions of the world refer to walking, sitting, lying down, and so on. For example, in the realm of space, sometimes the world appears to be walking, sometimes the world appears to be abiding, and so on, and the actions of the world occur without interruption.

It is the meaning called "artha" (meaning). To explain that meaning, it is said: Likewise, even in the uncontaminated realm, the distinction of the Victorious Ones is continuous. Thus it is said, meaning: Likewise, the Tathagatas, while dwelling in the pure, uncontaminated realm of Dharma, constantly and continuously perform the activities of emanated body, speech, and mind for the benefit of sentient beings. In the sky, all activities constantly diminish and manifest. As it is said, for example, in the realm of the sky, the activities of sentient and non-sentient beings constantly diminish and constantly manifest. In some places, external objects such as forests are burned by fire and disappear, and internal objects such as sentient beings also appear to die, so it is said that they diminish and arise. In some directions of the sky, external objects such as forests arise, and internal objects such as sentient beings also arise, so it is said that they manifest. Such is the meaning. Likewise, even in the uncontaminated realm, the activities of the Buddha arise and diminish. As it is said, likewise, when the Tathagatas dwell in the uncontaminated realm, the arising of the Buddha also appears, and diminishing also appears. How does it appear? When sentient beings have the opportunity, they show the manifestation of enlightenment through the emanation body, so it appears to arise. When there is no opportunity, they show Nirvana, so it also appears to diminish. This shows the explanation of the Buddha's activities not appearing. Sixteen verses on the profound uncontaminated realm, meaning: Having shown that the Buddha's activities are spontaneously accomplished and continuous, now, to show the profundity of the uncontaminated realm, sixteen verses are composed. That profundity of the uncontaminated realm is also of three types: profound nature, profound abiding, and profound activity. The profound nature also has four types: the nature of utmost purity, the nature of the supreme self, the nature of unspeakable things, and the nature of ultimate liberation. Although there is no difference between the former and the latter, all obscurations are without stain, neither pure nor impure, the Buddha considers it as suchness.
