The samadhi with investigation and analysis, the coarse mind is investigation, and the subtle is analysis. Such as "how to grasp", etc., wherein "their characteristics" refers to, how the Sutra Pitaka and other dharmas are grasped, observed, and analyzed, and the characteristics of these become the object of focus. After clearly and coarsely experiencing it, the shamatha and vipassana that follow the analysis, whichever it is, is the samadhi with investigation and analysis. Such as "the characteristics of themselves", etc., wherein "themselves" refers to, the characteristics of how the Sutra Pitaka and other dharmas are grasped, observed, and analyzed are grasped. Because there is no investigation in it, there are no clear and coarse characteristics. Because it is a rough appearance, it is only after experiencing subtle mindfulness that the shamatha and vipassana that follow the analysis, whichever it is, shows that it is the samadhi without investigation and only with analysis. Such as "their characteristics in all of all", etc., wherein "their characteristics are spontaneously accomplished in all of all" refers to, because the continuum of the mind becomes one, and investigation and analysis are close to pacification, without grasping the characteristics of the Sutra Pitaka and other dharmas, spontaneously accomplishing the way of experiencing the Dharma, and distinguishing shamatha and vipassana, whichever it is, shows that it is the samadhi without investigation and without analysis. Also, such as "arising from thorough searching", etc., on the ground with investigation and analysis, the shamatha and vipassana arising from thoroughly searching for the conventional truth and ultimate truth of all dharmas, whichever it is, shows that it is the samadhi with investigation and analysis. What arises from individual observation is the samadhi without investigation and only with analysis, because of the detailed individual observation of the Sutra Pitaka and other dharmas. The shamatha and vipassana that focus on the mixed Dharma, whichever it is, is the samadhi without investigation and without analysis, because all dharmas are of one taste in suchness, so they spontaneously merge.

Raro! World Honored One, what is the reason for calm abiding, etc., is about the grasping of calm abiding and insight, and the request for the reason of equanimity. Maitreya, is the mind agitated, etc., agitation means not pacified. Suspecting agitation means scattered thoughts. The dharmas that accord with universal weariness refer to the aspects of suffering and arising. The uninterrupted mind refers to the mind not focusing on objects. Maitreya, is the mind sinking, etc., mind sinking refers to being disturbed by dullness and sleep. Suspecting sinking means according with sinking. The dharmas that accord with manifest joy refer to the aspects of cessation and the path. The sign of the mind refers to the sign of the mind that focuses on the dharmas that accord with manifest joy, that is how it is said. After explaining the reason for calm abiding and the reason for grasping separately, Maitreya, whether one is solely determined on calm abiding, or solely determined on insight, or the path of union is also acceptable, thus showing the reason for equanimity. Not being afflicted by the near afflictions of these two, this shows the difference of the three paths, for the path that is not disturbed by agitation and regret, as well as dullness and sleep, when the mind naturally enters, the effortless attention that is accomplished, that is the reason for equanimity, thus it is shown. World Honored One, Bodhisattvas cultivate calm abiding and insight, truly knowing each of the dharmas and truly knowing each of the meanings, how does one truly know each of the dharmas? How does one truly know each of the meanings? After asking this, this is asking for the difference of the nature of dharma and meaning. Dharma is the place, and meaning is the reason for the place, Maitreya, truly knowing each of the dharmas with five aspects, etc., first the difference of the dharma that becomes the place is taught. The nature of dharma also has two types, the dharma that is spoken and the dharma that is realized. The dharma that is spoken is realization...
