A Concise Explanation of the Holy Maitreya Chapter from the Holy Saṃdhinirmocana Sūtra, Wisdom Essence. A Concise Explanation of the Holy Maitreya Chapter from the Holy Saṃdhinirmocana Sūtra. Wisdom Essence. Herein lies the commentary on the Holy Maitreya Chapter from the Saṃdhinirmocana Sūtra. From the Holy Saṃdhinirmocana Sūtra, a concise explanation of the Holy Maitreya Chapter, Volume One. Homage to the Holy Maitreya! Starting from the establishment of various designations of dharmas, it is said that the distinctions of the paths of Śamatha and Vipaśyanā, which are fully encompassed by Yoga, should be understood. This means that the Yoga path is taught by establishing designations for the sake of essence, the cause of combination, attainment, the means of attainment, and to prevent waste. Therein, that which is fully encompassed by Yoga is the very essence of the paths of Śamatha and Vipaśyanā. This term Yoga is understood to be the aggregate of ethics. The distinction between the paths of Śamatha and Vipaśyanā, by the essence of the aggregates of ethics, Samādhi, and wisdom, should be understood as being essence and so forth. Alternatively, Yoga is reason; the paths of Śamatha and Vipaśyanā, encompassed by the four reasons, should be combined with it. The term Saṃdhinirmocana means that by definitively unraveling the profound intention, it cuts the knots of afflictive and cognitive obscurations. The term Sūtra is because it is necessarily and completely spoken. The Bodhisattva Maitreya requested the Blessed One, because this path of Śamatha and Vipaśyanā is a proximate cause of great Bodhi, and the Holy Maitreya is also close to great Bodhi, therefore he requested the Blessed One. Thus, having ascertained the essence of the paths of Śamatha and Vipaśyanā, by asking "Where does the Blessed One, the Bodhisattva, abide?" and so forth, the cause of combination is requested, and the cause of combination is shown by the place, the support, and the object. Maitreya abides and relies on the various designations of dharmas, and without abandoning the aspiration for unsurpassed, perfect, and complete Bodhi, which is Śamatha and Vipaś

The cause of union through the state of seeing, and the cause of union through conditions, are indicated, because the establishment of Dharma is the collection of spoken Dharma, and is the cause of the state. The unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment is the Dharmakaya of the Dharma of realization, therefore, aspiration towards it is the cause of reliance, because aspiration is the preliminary to all Dharmas that lead to great enlightenment. The four objects of Shamatha and Vipassana of the Bhagavan, such as these, etc., through questioning, indicate the cause of union through the object. The image with conceptualization and the image without conceptualization, and the limit of things and the complete accomplishment of what is needed, among which, image is a synonym for similarity. Whose image is it? It is the image of the mind, because all appearances are it. Previously tending towards the object is the image with conceptualization. Gathering inward is the image without conceptualization. The thing is the Alaya-vijnana, because in it, the mind with the state and the object and those born from karma abide with the thing of cause and effect. The complete exhaustion of its limit is the limit of the thing itself, which is a synonym for the Dharmakaya of the transformed state. The complete accomplishment of what is needed, also because the affairs of oneself and others are accomplished, without obstruction to all that is knowable, and the entry of seeing the wisdom without attachment, is shown to be the complete accomplishment of what is needed. In that, etc., through etc., it was asked, those four objects, by which path are how many objects? The answer was: one, that is, the image without conceptualization, is the object of Shamatha, Shamatha looks inward, because it enters, it is gathered inward. How many are the objects of Vipassana? Through etc., the answer was: only one, that is, the image with conceptualization, is the object of Vipassana, because on the object, the differentiation itself is held as a sign. How many are the objects of both of them? The answer was: two, what are the two? That is this.
