In order not to waste (time), one should know many ways to establish designations. In order not to waste the samadhi that abides in non-conceptual wisdom, the establishment of designations is: World Honored One, are the path of tranquility and the path of insight different? Should it be said that they are not different? And so on. Why are those two not different? Because the mind that is the object of insight is the object. Thus it was said. The path of tranquility and the path of insight are not different, because the mind that is the object of insight is the object. The path of tranquility only takes the mind that is the object of insight as its object, and both the object and the subject are the nature of the mind, therefore they are not different. Why are they not different? And so on, in order to show that they are not different. Because it is the object of conceptual images. Thus it was said. The path of tranquility and the path of insight are different, just as that is the object of conceptual, characterized images. Thus it is shown that those two are the nature of the mind, therefore they are one, and they are different in terms of conceptual and non-conceptual nature. In order not to waste the realization of non-conceptual wisdom, World Honored One, I ask you, as the object of contemplation, is that image the mind, or is it different? Should it be said that it is not different? Thus it was said. Is the mind that is the subject and the image that is the object of samadhi different? Thus it was asked, and it should be said that they are not different. Thus it was said. In order to show the reason for writing why, because that image is only consciousness. Thus it was said. This shows that the mind appears as an object like an image, showing that it is not different from the mind. In order to show the reason, consciousness is distinguished by the object of consciousness.

It is said, I said, thus it is said. The object of focus is the mind appearing as the aspect of the object, and it is not different from consciousness, because it is focused on simultaneously. If that image, the object of samadhi, with phrases like "if," inquires about the situation of others' debates, the characteristic that enables realization becomes the agent, and the image to be examined becomes the object, how can it be said that these two are not different? Because in the world, the agent and the object appear to be different. In truth, in order to establish that they are not different, phrases such as "Maitreya, to that" are spoken. Among them, "who" refers to the agent, and "to whom" refers to the object, because there is no single dharma, therefore, who is the one who can realize, what is the agent to be examined, and what is it that becomes the object? In truth, for the mind and mental factors, because each atom does not appear, there is no name of agent and object, and for aggregates, it is also because they are conventional truth, and because they are dependent on others, and because they are powerless. Moreover, because there is no self-existent thing, clinging to the agent only causes actions to occur, because the agent is unreasonable, so the agent and the object and the action are also unreasonable. If so, how does the mind of the apprehended and the apprehender appear as mind? Although it is so, the mind that is born is how it appears, thus it is said. This shows that from beginningless time, the consciousness born from the seed of consciousness that is perfumed by the habit of the apprehended and the apprehender appears as the apprehended and the apprehender. In order to clarify that meaning, metaphors are shown with phrases such as "for example, like." This shows that although no image arises in the center of a mirror, the form itself produces a distorted image, so one might think that one sees the image. For this, the debaters, the basis is the center of the mirror itself.

And, if it is said that an image arises based on form, then that is merely another thing. If all those things that serve as the basis for its arising do not exist, then how can this example be valid? To those, it should be said that there is no meaning other than the consciousness of the aspect of form and image. Why is there no meaning? Even without meaning, the arising of consciousness is apparent, just as in the past and future, and in dreams, etc., even without meaning, the arising of consciousness is seen. Furthermore, due to the power of believing in the same meaning, even when different consciousnesses are recognized, it is certain that the mind itself appears as an image. For example, for the same thing like a river, animals see it as the form of a dwelling, hungry ghosts see it as the form of pus and blood, humans see it as the form of water, and gods see the earth as the nature of lapis lazuli. Likewise, just as form and image, though not different, appear as different, because they necessarily appear simultaneously, it is determined that the object of focus and the focusing subject are established as non-dual. In the phrase "Bhagavan, of sentient beings," etc., "form, etc." refers to substances such as blue. "The image of the mind" refers to what appears in the mind. "Abiding in its own nature" refers to abiding in its essence. "That" refers to external objects. "Not different from the mind" refers to actions and afflictions, etc. From where is it known? It is known from actions, afflictions, and also from demons. That path is also not differentiated, so the distinctions of virtue, non-virtue, and immovability are all included. If asked, "Then, what are non-virtuous actions and afflictions?" The answer is, "Loving-kindness is not different." Then, why does it appear as different? Because deluded children with inverted minds do not truly know that those images are merely consciousness itself, they think in a reversed way, it is said.
