The tenth ground is the antidote to not being attached to signlessness, etc., and not being controlled by signs, because it abides in non-manifestation and signlessness, and because it purifies the Buddha-fields. The ninth ground is the antidote to not being controlled by teaching the Dharma in all ways, because the individual correct knowledge and the complete maturation of sentient beings are accomplished. Because it has the power to completely mature in all ways. The tenth ground is the complete Dharma-body, which is the antidote to not attaining individual correct knowledge, because the gate of samadhi and the gate of dharani are completely purified. The Tathagata-ground is the antidote to the extremely subtle and most extremely subtle obscurations of affliction and knowledge, because the gates of samadhi and dharani pervade immeasurably, and the subtle habitual tendencies of the obscurations of affliction and knowledge of the Bodhisattvas who are empowered as Buddhas by all the Buddhas themselves, and whatever is most extremely subtle, is abandoned on the Buddha-ground. Because they are well destroyed, there is non-attachment to all things, unobstructed knowledge, and the attainment of vision, because there is no manifestation towards all objects of knowledge, and because there is no obstruction to whatever obstructs the knowledge of the Hearers, etc. Unobstructed wisdom and the attainment of vision. The object of contemplation for the complete accomplishment of intention is for the sake of attaining the ultimate benefit of oneself and others. The extremely pure Dharma-body means that the obscurations of affliction and knowledge are completely abandoned. The Dharma-body abides in extreme purity because all places have been transformed. In order to ask for the means of attainment, the Bodhisattva asked, "Bhagavan, how does a Bodhisattva practice shamatha and vipashyana?" Because shamatha and vipashyana are the common cause of the Bodhisattvas such as the Hearers, he asked how he could attain the unexcelled, perfect, and complete enlightenment. The Bhagavan replied

Regarding actions and so on. "Starting from the seven suchnesses" refers to the suchness of arising, the suchness of characteristics, the suchness of complete knowledge, the suchness of abiding, the suchness of inverted establishment, the suchness of complete purification, and the suchness of true establishment. That is, starting from these seven suchnesses. The phrase "regarding the dharmas that are heard and contemplated" refers to the dharmas that are the objects of calm abiding, insight, and the seven suchnesses. Dharma From these dharmas, how should the mind be applied? It is said, "with a mind in equipoise," because when the mind in equipoise focuses on these dharmas, it becomes an image of the mind, and therefore, these will contradict the suchness of the mind. It is through proper grasping, proper thinking, and proper distinguishing that suchness is shown to be able to be brought to mind inwardly. "That itself" refers to suchness. In the phrase "when one thus brings suchness to mind," "that" refers to the Bodhisattva. The phrase "even for all subtle signs that arise, one should temporarily place the mind in a state of great equanimity" is because applying suchness is the antidote to all signs. If even subtle signs do not arise for a Bodhisattva who applies suchness, what need is there to mention the arising of gross signs? This is what is shown. Subtle signs are all the signs from "the sign taken by the mind" to "the sign of the selflessness of phenomena." "Having thus entered" means entering suchness in order to dispel all signs. "Abiding in that" means abiding many times in the meditation of applying suchness. "From time to time" refers to the meaning of calm abiding, not the meaning of insight. "This is the time for insight, not the time for calm abiding." "This is the time for the path of union." This is the meaning. Thus, a Bodhisattva who abides properly in accordance with the time purifies his mind from obstacles, obscurations, and distractions.
