That is for attainment. Or, among the perfections included in the stage of learning, the most excellent is the tenth ground. Therefore, bodhisattvas are fully accomplished at that stage. Among the perfections included in the stage of no-more-learning, the most excellent is the ground of Buddhahood. Because in that ground, there is no more learning of the perfections. Therefore, accomplishment as a Buddha is accomplishment. Thus, the full accomplishment of bodhisattvas on the ten grounds, and the accomplishment of the Tathagata Buddha, should be regarded as supreme accomplishments. Therefore, in terms of the ultimate meaning, the so-called desire for the ten perfections is like these twelve kinds of supreme qualities. Only bodhisattvas have generosity and so on, but not shravakas and so on. Therefore, it is called supreme. In this sense, the generosity and so on of the bodhisattvas themselves, up to wisdom, are shown as these ten perfections in a definitive way. Therefore, whatever accomplishment there is for the perfections is also called supreme. The term "some" is used to show the names of those perfections to those who do not even know the names of the perfections. Generosity, ethics, patience, diligence, meditation, wisdom, skillful means, aspiration, strength, and wisdom, these are the ten perfections. This is said because the supreme thing to do is for the sake of accomplishing the benefit of all sentient beings. Therefore, the question is asked, "What is the individual function of each of these?" The function is to follow and take hold, not to harm, and to endure it. Thus, it is extensively explained. The generosity of the bodhisattva is to follow and take hold of sentient beings, that is, wanting to make offerings and benefit them, benefiting them in return with pure outer and inner things, not considering the ripening and so on, completely giving with a certain attitude, and also accomplishing this with the actions of body and speech, this is the material generosity of the bodhisattva. By removing the suffering of hunger and thirst and so on, sentient beings are followed and taken hold of. With compassion as the guide, not harming sentient beings,

Showing life, treatises, arts, and crafts, and pointing out the path to happiness and liberation, is the giving of Dharma. This also eliminates the suffering of those without livelihood and the suffering of bad rebirths in samsara, thus it takes care of sentient beings. Freeing from being seized by kings, thieves, shares to be used, and wild animals, etc., is the giving of fearlessness. This also eliminates the fear of being deprived of life, possessions, sons, wives, etc., thus it takes care of sentient beings. "With discipline, one does not harm them," which means abandoning all misconduct of body and speech, and the prohibitions and admonitions that are in accordance with the world, turning away from the actions of body and speech and practicing is discipline. Abiding in that discipline, one does not harm or make uncomfortable sentient beings, not even for the sake of one's own life, nor does one allow others to do so. Patience is not taking offense when others harm you, which means taking compassion as the priority, and the patience of accepting all aspects of suffering without taking offense. By this, even if others kill, bind, beat, etc., one does not retaliate, thus one does not take offense. Diligence is increasing virtues, which means enthusiasm for giving, etc., is diligence. By familiarizing oneself with the virtues of giving, etc., the extraordinary accomplishment of virtues is growth. Samadhi is pleasing and introducing with miraculous powers, etc., the meaning of the word "etc." is that it includes the knowledge of the various categories of mind. Samadhi is one-pointedness of mind in samadhi. Miraculous powers are walking in the sky, etc. Introducing is showing the nature of the teachings, if one pleases with the miraculous powers that are the result of samadhi and the wonderful miraculous powers of all speech, then one will be able to introduce the teachings. Wisdom is liberating by giving the correct instructions, which means wisdom is the nature of distinguishing the Dharma in all aspects. Its function is the correct instructions.
