Mahayana. The seven greatnesses are aim, practice, wisdom, diligence, skillful means, attainment, and action. Among them, great aim is that the teachings of the immeasurable sutras, such as the Hundred Thousand Verses, are the aim of the bodhisattva path. Great practice is for accomplishing all the benefits of oneself and others. Great wisdom is for knowing that persons and dharmas are without self. Great diligence is for engaging in hundreds of thousands of difficult deeds in three countless eons. Great skillful means is for not abiding in samsara and nirvana. Great attainment is for attaining immeasurable and countless qualities such as powers, fearlessness, and unmixed Buddha-dharmas. Great action is for accomplishing the deeds of the Buddhas by manifestly showing enlightenment as long as samsara exists. These are the unsurpassed Mahayana, because there is no other more excellent vehicle than it. That is, practice, aim, and perfect accomplishment. Thus, because it possesses these, it is called the unsurpassed Mahayana. Because practice itself is unsurpassed, practice itself is unsurpassed. Likewise, aim and perfect accomplishment should also be known as unsurpassed. These unsurpassednesses are established in order with respect to the path of the bodhisattva, its place, and its fruit. For example, the words of the Buddha also only explain practice, aim, its fruit, and these alone. Aim precedes practice, so it is reasonable to speak of aim first, but practice is spoken of first in order to show bodhisattvas that practice is the essence. So how is it called unsurpassed practice? Therefore, it is said that unsurpassed practice should be known as practicing the ten perfections. Practicing the perfections is to be diligent in the perfections. Practicing the perfections is also said to be the Mahayana, and not anything else, so it is the Mahayana.

It shows that unsurpassed practice. Also, in what way combining practice with the perfections (Pāramitā) becomes unsurpassed, in order to show those ways. It is said in the sutra: There are six kinds of practice. From how to make the perfection excellent, to not knowing how to become without difference. Therefore, it is said about this: "Twelve excellent self-natures." There are twelve kinds of excellence, which are synonyms for greatness and unsurpassed. In order to show its form, it is widely said "Vast and long-lasting." The twelve forms from vast excellence to accomplished excellence are excellent. Among them, vast excellence refers to not desiring all the perfections of the world, and to understand them extremely well. Perfection refers to eminence. It also has two forms: obtained and not obtained. Not being attached to one's own happiness, and striving to eliminate the suffering of others, therefore not being attached to what has been obtained, and not seeking what has not been obtained. As it is said: Your virtuous merit fruit, all for the benefit of others, not for the cause of self-benefit. Because the Buddha himself, who is complete with renunciation, wisdom, and power, is the fruit, it is excellent. Or, the vastness of the world can be divided into two types: appearing as great and not wanting to repay benefits. In this way, Bodhisattvas do not desire all the perfections of the world, but combine generosity and other perfections more and more greatly, therefore, that practice is called vast. Long-lasting excellence is excellent because it is long-lasting, and long-lasting itself is getting used to generosity and other perfections for a long time. Because it is not known how long the time is, it is said: In order to fully practice in three countless eons. Bodhisattvas practice generosity and other perfections until the end of three countless eons, so it is very long-lasting. The purpose of doing is excellent for the benefit of all beings.

The reason for saying "for the sake of the cause" is that bodhisattvas, not being attached to their own happiness, engage in giving for the benefit and happiness of sentient beings, and therefore it is called a noble cause. "Inexhaustible noble" is noble because it is inexhaustible. What is inexhaustible? Therefore, it is said that because it is dedicated to the great Bodhi, it will not be exhausted forever. Giving, etc., dedicated to the great Bodhi, even if the ripened fruit is given in all places of birth, will never be cut off, because it is to accomplish the Dharmakaya, the nature of the transformed place. Moreover, because it is inexhaustible, it will not be exhausted in the Nirvana without residue, but dedication to the Bodhi of the Shravakas, etc., will be exhausted, because in the realm of Nirvana without residue, the body is cut off in all ways. Or, because of dedicating to the great Bodhi, giving and so on become inexhaustible, because there are many ripened fruits. Many are also called inexhaustible, because the ripened fruits will not be exhausted forever through giving. For those dedicated to the Bodhi of the Shravakas, etc., it will not be so inexhaustible. Or, for the benefit of sentient beings, the Bodhisattvas dedicate the roots of virtue to the great Bodhi, and like the realm of sentient beings, it is inexhaustible, therefore, like the realm of sentient beings, it will never be exhausted. The so-called "continuous and uninterrupted noble" is because of believing in the equality of self and others, in order to perfect the giving and other perfections to all sentient beings. That is to say, on the Joyful Ground, the Bodhisattva understands the meaning of pervading the entire Dharma realm, thereby believing in the equality of self and others. Because of believing in the equality of self and others, abandoning the discrimination between self and others, just like one's own giving and so on, one can also obtain great joy through the giving and so on of others. Therefore, even every moment, every instant, every day, it will not be continuously interrupted.
