The distinction lies in that: Śrāvakas and Pratyekabuddhas focus on the body, etc., belonging to their own continuum, that is, they focus on the body, feelings, mind, and phenomena. Bodhisattvas, on the other hand, focus on those belonging to their own and others' continua, that is, they focus on the body, feelings, mind, and phenomena. Why is the object of focus different? Because Śrāvakas, etc., engage in cultivating antidotes for their own benefit. Bodhisattvas do so for the benefit of themselves and others. The aspects of impermanence, etc., are the aspects of impermanence, suffering, emptiness, and selflessness. Why do Śrāvakas and Pratyekabuddhas, etc., contemplate in this way? It is to make them weary, for if weariness does not arise, they will not be liberated from them. Bodhisattvas do so in the manner of an object of focus, that is, the nature of investigation is the manner of an object of focus, which is a synonym. Why do they contemplate in this way? It is to abandon all conceptual thoughts, and this can be called their distinction. They do not contemplate solely in the manner of non-objectification, but also contemplate in the aspects of impermanence, etc. In this way, they are distinguished by the distinction of contemplation. In any case, they must be separated from the body, etc., that is, separation from the body, etc., refers to the nirvana without remainder, and the abandonment of afflictions focused on it. Bodhisattvas are neither for the sake of separation nor for the sake of non-separation. Why is that? Because if one is too separated or not separated from the body, etc., one will not be able to accomplish the deeds of sentient beings, just like those who have exhausted their afflictions and ordinary sentient beings. If it is neither for the sake of separation nor for the sake of non-separation, then why cultivate the antidotes? Therefore, it is said that in any case, one cultivates for the sake of non-abiding nirvana. What is non-abiding nirvana? When a Bodhisattva is alive, he abides in karma and birth, and because he possesses compassion, he knows that taking birth in samsara is also wisdom.

By the power, there completely do not become afflicted there. This is called the non-abiding nirvana of a Bodhisattva. Even abiding in samsara, they do not become afflicted like ordinary beings, and they do not become nirvana without remainder like the Shravakas and others. Even at the time of the Tathagatas, they do not abide in samsara because they have abandoned afflictions and the obscurations to knowledge, and because the continuum of the Dharmakaya is not cut off, and for as long as the world exists, they perform the benefit of others with the two, the Sambhogakaya and the Nirmanakaya. They also do not abide in nirvana without remainder. Thus, the practice of the antidotes of the Bodhisattvas is superior to that of the Shravakas and others by the distinctions of object, attention, and result. The practice of the antidotes has been explained. After the practice of the antidotes, its place is explained. Therefore, it is asked, "What is its place?" "Its" means the place of the practice of the antidotes. Therefore, "When entering the place of the cause." It is said extensively like this. The place of the cause is the person who abides in any lineage. "Lineage" is a synonym for cause and seed. It is not that any lineage itself becomes the generation of the mind, etc., because here it is intended to abide in the lineage. That follows the higher and higher places and does not turn back. Some say that that lineage is also the nature of the root of virtue. Some say that the root of virtue itself is from the lineage of the Shravakas up to the lineage of the Bodhisattvas. Some say that starting from the place of ordinary beings, the differences in faculties are called lineages, and it is also said that the power of the seed of the mind is called lineage. If it exists, then in the time of ordinary beings and in the time of learners, it is called the lineage of the Shravakas up to the lineage of the Bodhisattvas. In the time of non-learners, it is called Shravaka or Pratyekabuddha or Buddha, because that is the ultimate state, so that is not a lineage. That is also divided into three by the distinctions of Shravakas, etc. It is divided into six by the distinctions of definite and indefinite.
