Why is that? Patience and the highest mundane dharma are the strengths of the lineage within the faculties. The distinctions of small, medium, and large refer to the three aspects of joy and so forth. Among these, the small and medium are the faculties. The large ones are the strengths. What are the small ones? They are the warm stages. What are the medium ones? They are the peak stages. The large ones are also divided into four: small, medium, and large are the small, medium, and large patiences, in that order. The greatest of the great are the highest mundane dharmas. All of these that are in accordance with the part of ascertainment are the nature of samadhi and wisdom, and are those that are endowed with equanimity. Among these, the aspect of warmth is the warm stage. For example, when rubbing wood to produce fire, the initial sign of fire that can burn the wood is the arising of warmth. Similarly, because the fire of the noble path can burn all the wood of afflictions, it is called the warm stage because it is the initial nature. Because the roots of virtue go from wavering to the peak, it is called the peak stage. Because it is extremely tolerant of the meaning of truth, it is called patience. It is also with outflows, but because it is superior to other dharmas with outflows, it is called the highest mundane dharma. Because the path of seeing arises immediately after that, they are called supreme, and they are momentary. The remainder that are in accordance with the part of ascertainment are constant. Among these, the roots of virtue that are in accordance with the part of liberation should be understood as the way to destroy the power of repeatedly arising in samsara. It should be understood as the way to increase the power of the arising of uncontaminated dharmas that are in accordance with the part of ascertainment, because the path of seeing arises after the supreme dharma. Also, because it is well distinguished by the limbs of enlightenment, the limbs of enlightenment are explained after the strengths. How are they established? The so-called is meant to ask why they are established. Therefore, the nature limb, the place limb, are explained extensively. Those that have not been taken up on the path that have become limbs of enlightenment are the limbs of enlightenment.

Because it is dangerous, it will be shown as the basis of being free from all afflictions. The non-pliancy of body and mind is called an evil dwelling, because if it exists, there is no one-pointedness of mind, so the mind will be distracted. When the mind is distracted, all afflictions such as desire arise. When dwelling in this way, the dwelling place is the cause of all afflictions. The antidote to that evil dwelling is extreme pliancy. How is it done? Because of extreme pliancy, the body and mind both become pliant, and thus extreme pliancy is established as the basis of being free from all afflictions. Samadhi is a dwelling place, meaning that the body and mind are both held by extreme pliancy, so the mind can dwell equally. When the mind dwells equally, one can truly know. Seeing truly, one can abandon afflictions, and thus the dwelling place free from all afflictions is samadhi. Equanimity is the nature, meaning that it is the antidote to the unequal mind that corresponds to all afflictions, as well as the mind that is not subdued, and the mind that has effort. Thus, equanimity is the nature of being free from all afflictions. Furthermore, by the path of abandoning it, seeing the afflictions to be abandoned, abandoning the bonds of afflictions, with the nature of separation, the wisdom included in the pure liberation of the path, certainty arises about what is to be known, this is called equanimity here, meaning that because one has done what needs to be done, the thought of exhaustion arises for exhaustion, so one practices equanimity. Below the limbs of enlightenment are the limbs of the path, how are those established? It means that below the path of seeing is the path of cultivation, that is called the limbs of the path. Therefore, the limbs of the path are proclaimed below the limbs of enlightenment. For what purpose are those established? Therefore, complete cutting off and understanding, etc., are extensively explained. From the wrong view of the unfavorable side to the wrong samadhi of the unfavorable side, with the limbs of the path such as right view.
