The phrase "རྒྱ་ཆེར་འབྱུང་ངོ་ (Tibetan)" indicates that the scripture shows the four aspects of diligence itself arising. The term "རྒྱ་ཆེར་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal meaning: vast)" is connected to the remaining words and phrases. Among them, this is the remaining phrase, which means generating desire, striving, diligence, holding the mind, and properly settling down in order to abandon the sinful and non-virtuous dharmas that have already arisen. Similarly, generating desire in order not to generate the sinful and non-virtuous dharmas that have not yet arisen is called "རྒྱ་ཆེར་འབྱུང་བ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal meaning: vast arising)." Similarly, generating desire in order to generate the virtuous dharmas that have not yet arisen is called "རྒྱ་ཆེར་བྱ་འོ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal meaning: vast action)." Generating desire, striving, diligence, holding the mind, and properly settling down in order to maintain, increase, and perfect the virtuous dharmas that have already arisen. Maintaining the virtuous dharmas that have already arisen means not losing them completely. Increasing means continuous arising. Perfecting means becoming excellent. The term "འདུན་པ་སྐྱེད་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal meaning: generating desire)" shows the means of respectfully practicing diligence. The term "འབད་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal meaning: effort)" is a synonym for abandoning laziness and manifesting body and mind. The term "བརྩོན་འགྲུས་རྩོམ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal meaning: initiating diligence)" is for eliminating sinking and excitement. How to initiate? By properly knowing and attending to the dharmas that should be rejoiced, holding the sinking mind. If the mind becomes excited, then properly settling down on that object is a synonym for "འཛིན་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal meaning: holding)." Thus, properly abandoning all dharmas is showing the nature of diligence, and because these properly hold body, speech, and mind, they are called those who properly hold. "དེར་གནས་ལས་སུ་རུང་བ་ཉིད། (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal meaning: abiding there, the state of being capable)" In "རྒྱ་ཆེར་འབྱུང་བ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal meaning: vast arising)," "དེར་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal meaning: there)" is the place where diligence is initiated in order to eliminate unfavorable factors. The state of being capable of the mind abiding is the ability to accomplish all meanings and benefits, which is the state of being capable. This state of being capable also arises from desire, diligence, mind, and observation, therefore it is said that "the state of being capable is the four legs of miraculous power." Superknowledge, etc...

Accomplishing all is miraculous power. Because it is its place, it is called the foot of miraculous power, which is synonymous with the word "cause." Therefore, it is said that it is the cause of achieving all meanings. These are also the feet of miraculous power that possess the effort of abandoning the samadhi of desire, the feet of miraculous power that possess the effort of abandoning the samadhi of diligence, the feet of miraculous power that possess the effort of abandoning the samadhi of mind, and the feet of miraculous power that possess the effort of abandoning the samadhi of contemplation. Among these, the samadhi of desire is when, by the power of desire, one respectfully engages in initiating diligence, one touches the one-pointedness of mind. The samadhi of diligence is when, upon initiating diligence, one constantly cultivates and touches the one-pointedness of mind. The samadhi of mind is when, relying on the seed of previous samadhi, one holds the mind and touches the one-pointedness of mind. The samadhi of contemplation is when, upon thoroughly distinguishing the object, one touches the one-pointedness of mind. Abiding here refers to the abiding of the mind, which should be understood as samadhi. Saying samadhi is to distinguish it from the nature of conditioned phenomena. In this way, initiating diligence is the workability of the mind, which becomes the four feet of miraculous power. Therefore, the feet of miraculous power are taught after the right abandonment. What is the necessity of that workability? What is the cause? Therefore, in order to abandon the five faults, it should be understood that it arises from the cause of cultivating effort, so it is said. Because the five faults are not understood, therefore, it is asked: What are those five faults? In order to indicate those, it is extensively said: Laziness is the instructions, etc., forgetting, sinking, and agitation, etc. If it is thought that those will become six faults, therefore it is said: Among them, sinking and agitation are summarized as one fault. Therefore, it becomes five. Among them, laziness is a fault at the time of practice, because it does not practice. Diligence...

Forgetting the instructions is a fault, because it prevents the mind from abiding in equanimity. In abiding in equanimity, sinking and excitement are faults, because they prevent the mind from becoming workable. When sinking and excitement arise, non-attention is a fault. Non-attention is equanimity, because it does not completely pacify the two. When completely pacified, attention is a fault, which tends towards being called a fault. Attention is attention. Because of being separated from sinking and excitement, it becomes equanimity, therefore it is called complete pacification. The activities that are to be abandoned are the activities of abandonment. What is to be abandoned? It is to abandon the five faults just mentioned. If so, then it should be explained how the eight activities that abandon these are established. Among them, there are four for abandoning laziness: aspiration, effort, faith, and perfect pliancy. Among them, aspiration is desire. Effort is diligence. Faith is trust in the protector. Perfect pliancy is workability. How are these established for the purpose of abandoning laziness? Therefore, these should also be understood in order, that is, the place and the one abiding in it, the cause and the result itself. This is what is said. These arise from one another, therefore it shows that laziness will be abandoned. The place of effort is aspiration. Abiding is effort, because desire precedes effort. The cause of abiding aspiration is faith, how is it? Therefore, it is said that if there is trust, desire will arise, because being in accordance with the faith of cause and effect, there will be desire for things. The result of abiding effort is perfect pliancy, how is it? Therefore, it is said that if diligence is initiated, the distinction of samadhi will be obtained, the samadhi becoming special is the cause of perfect pliancy. Therefore, through the samadhi becoming special by initiating diligence, perfect pliancy is said to be the result of effort. In this way, initiating diligence is free from the fault of the thought of the evil realms.
