The former, such as the eye, is the cause of the latter, such as the eye. There is nothing else here called the cause-owner. Thus, if one is skilled in the elements, then grasping at the self as a cause will be averted. Below the meaning of the elements, the meaning of the sense bases should be stated. Therefore, it is said: "Feeling and objects are all decisive, the source of near use is different." Thus it is said. Other than the elements, there are also many sense bases and dependent origination, and so on. The word "other" is used because it is a general statement. If asked, "What is other?" Because it is explained below the elements, it is meant to show that this word "other" exists apart from the sense bases. Therefore, the word "sense bases" is mentioned. Among them, the six internal sense bases are the source of the arising of the near use of feeling. The six external ones are the source of the arising of the near use of completely cutting off objects, and so on. The meaning of the source of arising is the meaning of the sense base. Arising is production, and because it causes the arising of the two near uses of feeling and completely cutting off objects to increase, it is a sense base. They are divided into internal and external by the distinction of the source of arising of the near use of feeling and consciousness. Feeling is pleasure, pain, and neither pleasure nor pain. That itself is near use, so it is called near use, which is a synonym for experiencing. The internal sense bases are said to be the source of the arising of the near use of feeling. Objects are also the door of that arising, but the place, such as the eye, is beneficial and harmful, and there is also great knowledge and uniqueness in them, so because it has become a place, if there is an eye, then through that door it will be used from feeling, and if there is not, it will not. Completely cutting off objects is consciousness, because it is the nature of grasping at the characteristics of objects. That itself is the nature of understanding objects, so it is near use for objects. Because it is the preliminary door of arising, the external sense bases are explained, but not the internal ones, although it is also the door of arising, but like this, for the object...
