It is called the obscuration of the ground, because it is so subtle that it cannot be examined elsewhere, therefore it is said so. The great obscuration is what is pervasive, which refers to the afflictive and cognitive obscurations of those of the bodhisattva lineage. The small obscuration is what is temporary, which refers to the afflictive obscuration of those of the shravaka lineage, and so on. The obscuration of conjunction is what is left over, which refers to the very practices of desire and so on, because one does not obtain conjunction itself through them. The obscuration to attainment is what is equal, which refers to those who practice in a similar way, because it becomes an obstacle to attainment. The obscuration to special attainment is what is taking and abandoning, which refers to those of the bodhisattva lineage, because it is an obscuration to special attainment. Non-abiding nirvana is a special attainment, and it itself should also be recognized as a special quality of the result. The obscuration to correct conjunction is what are the nine characteristics of affliction, because it is said that the nine universal conjunctions are obscurations. How these obscure correct conjunction has already been explained. The obscuration to the cause is what is the obscuration to the ten aspects of virtue and so on, because it is the occasion for the meaning of the cause, which means that it becomes an obscuration by obstructing the cause of virtue and so on, therefore it is called the obscuration to the cause. The obscuration to entering into that alone is what is the obscuration to the aspects of enlightenment, which means that they cause one to enter into that alone. The obscuration to unsurpassed virtue is what is the obscuration to the perfections, because there is no virtue higher than that. The obscuration to its special progression is what is the obscuration to the grounds, the very perfections become the special place of transcendence, which are called the grounds. The summarized obscuration is what are the two summarized aspects, which refers to the afflictive obscuration and the cognitive obscuration, which summarize all obscurations.

For that reason. Therefore, in order to easily understand and uphold it, the summary of the meaning is explained. By making a summary, it is easy to understand. It is easy to uphold. In the treatise "Distinguishing the Middle from the Extremes," the section on the chapter of obscurations is the explanation of the second chapter. After explaining the obscurations, it is the section on explaining Suchness, because it is mentioned after that. Therefore, it is said to be spoken under the authority of Suchness, called the explanation. Suchness also has many aspects. Therefore, if one does not understand its divisions, it is difficult to understand the nature of Suchness itself. Therefore, in order to first show the divisions of Suchness. Root, nature is Suchness. Thus, the ten Suchnesses are extensively explained. Some say that in order to show that other Suchnesses are included in the root Suchness, the root Suchness is explained. In order to eliminate the faults that arise in fully knowing, abandoning, and realizing the root Suchness, the Suchness of nature is explained. In order to excellently show the method of being disgusted with samsara, the non-inverted Suchness is explained. Because after being disgusted, it shows the definite liberation through the Hearer Vehicle, the Suchness of cause and effect is explained. Hearers attain definite liberation by fully understanding the Four Noble Truths and cultivating the two. In order to show the method of accomplishing all-knowingness, the coarse Suchness is explained. In order to show the method of abandoning all obscurations, the subtle Suchness is explained. In order to show the method of teaching the Dharma of good abiding, and in order to show the method of defeating all opponents, the famous Suchness is explained. In order to show that although it is the same in the Dharmadhatu, purity is different due to the differences in lineage, faculties, and intentions, the Suchness of the realm of pure conduct is explained. In order to show the method of entering into defilement and purification in all aspects, the comprehensive Suchness is explained. In order to start from Suchness and show the power of reversing all doubts, the well-differentiated Suchness is explained. In order to reverse all grasping at self and to establish the method of non-self excellently, the Suchness of the wise is explained. Others say that the root
