Because this (Bodhisattva) truly holds and completely accepts the act of placing all sentient beings in the unsurpassed realm of nirvana without residue, therefore, truly holding is the generation of Bodhicitta. That is, the thought of benefiting oneself and others, it is a mind with intention. Its three obstacles: not possessing lineage, that is, not having lineage, or the lineage of Shravakas, etc. Not possessing a virtuous friend means having a lineage, but not encountering those who can make them truly hold the generation of Bodhicitta, relying on whom they will regress from Bodhicitta, or virtuous dharmas will not increase. Even if one encounters a virtuous friend, one's mind will be completely weary due to the sufferings of samsara, weary of sentient beings who have gone astray, and thinking of quickly attaining nirvana. What are the obstacles in this? It is not possessing the cause and not possessing the condition, as well as not having compassion for sentient beings and laziness. Without compassion, one will become weary or lazy because of the affairs of sentient beings. Possessing intelligence is the Bodhisattva himself, that is to say, those who are naturally endowed with the lineage of Shravakas, etc., are sharp in their faculties in various ways, and it is the time to understand in detail all aspects of all knowable things, and have faith in the profound and vast Dharma, therefore, only the Bodhisattva is intelligent, others are not. The Bodhisattva himself is the one who accomplishes the benefit of others without reversing it. Not possessing accomplishment means not entering the Paramitas, etc. Abiding in accomplishment means understanding the Bodhisattva. An evil person is a foolish person, which is a synonym for a person who cannot fully understand, an evil person does not understand associating with a Bodhisattva who possesses accomplishment. A hateful person is a resentful person, which refers to those who hate the Bodhisattva, they seize the opportunity to find fault with the Bodhisattva, cannot see the true qualities of the Bodhisattva, or see where there is no fault, or think it is harmful because of hatred, thereby denying the true qualities, fabricating and proclaiming non-existent sins.
