Having practiced everything, one will attain enlightenment. In detail, one should first generate the mind of enlightenment, because it is the basis for achieving the perfection of self and others. Then, one should practice generosity and so on in accordance with the generation of the mind, thereby revealing the Bodhicitta. Then, having become accustomed to it for countless eons, by accumulating the collections of merit and wisdom, in order to purify the mind, one should generate the path of seeing, which is the non-erroneous nature that is the antidote to errors regarding persons and phenomena. Then, in order to have the distinction of being completely pure, one should perfect the path of meditation that is extremely differentiated by being free from obscurations. Then, by transcending the Hearers and so on, one should completely dedicate to enlightenment all the roots of virtue, both mundane and supramundane, that have been accumulated. Then, having attained that state, and not thinking of it as great enlightenment, one will not be afraid of the profound and vast teachings of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. Then, having much learning and possessing realization, one extensively teaches the Dharma in order to ripen sentient beings. Then, the discipline being fully ripened, one empowers them in order to liberate them, thereby attaining Buddhahood itself. Here, thirty obscurations and ten things to be obscured, such as virtue, are explained, therefore, because one does not know how many obscurations exist in these things such as virtue, one asks, therefore: Their obscurations, should be known as three each. Thus it was said. Among them, the so-called three obscurations, not combining means not creating. What is the obscuration in this? Carelessness is also the affliction of laziness, what does not combine? Corresponding to the seeds of affliction, not indicating or not combining in the distinction of the state of becoming an affliction. Not continuously merging or not respectfully combining, because it is small it is called not combining. Not combining does not mean not, because that is not suitable as an obscuration. Combining with the non-source means, the door through which enlightenment and the roots of virtue that lead to enlightenment grow, whatever scripture is the source, from that.

The other is not a source of birth. Binding to that means binding those outside of this to what is not a source of birth. What is the obstruction to that? It is the ignorance or afflictive emotions of view that bind beings to what is not a source of birth. That very binding is the obstruction. Binding to what is not in accordance with the way means that what is in accordance with the way is the means. Binding to something other than what is the means is binding to what is not in accordance with the way. In this teaching itself, it is like this: meditating on loving-kindness in the realm of desire is not a means of abandoning desire, and meditating on ugliness in the realm of anger. Here, too, not attending in accordance with the way or its cause is the obstruction of binding. The three obstructions to enlightenment: enlightenment is understanding the meaning as it is. Not generating virtue is what was said above. How does not generating obstruct? If there is no virtue, one will not become enlightened. Therefore, not generating virtue is an obstruction to enlightenment. Or, in a specific situation, whatever afflictive emotion obstructs the generation of virtue is also an obstruction to enlightenment, because whatever accumulation is definitely obstructed by something is also an obstruction to its result. Not attending to what has already been generated is not cultivating, which is synonymous with not increasing. Whatever afflictive emotion, such as laziness, causes one not to repeatedly attend to whatever virtue has arisen in a specific situation is the obstruction here. Not completing the accumulations means not completing the accumulations of merit and wisdom with which enlightenment will be attained, and afflictive emotions or small accumulations in situations such as the higher ones. Others say that even though they are not specifically explained, the obstructions of those that are in accordance with the determining aspect should be regarded as not generating here, but not others. Not attending to those that have been generated, and not accumulating accumulations even when attending, is called an obstruction. Correctly grasping is generating the mind of enlightenment, which means the complete accumulations of merit and wisdom, and its result, Buddhahood, and the mind.
