If one does not diligently cultivate these five excellent qualities, then the supreme noble one will by no means attain omniscience. Therefore, in order to subdue other beings or for oneself to be able to know, one diligently cultivates these. Thus it is said. Excessive refers to things like attachment, although small, but in the bodhisattva lineage and the shravaka lineage, they account for a large proportion and occur frequently. The so-called obscuration of objects of attachment and so on refers to: Some people have a large proportion of any kind of attachment to bad objects and it happens frequently, those are the objects of attachment and so on. Equality refers to the obscuration of the bodhisattva lineage and the shravaka lineage themselves, equality is because neither of these two aspects exist. The so-called obscuration of objects in an equal manner refers to: Some people generate afflictions like objects, but not frequently, those are the objects in an equal manner. The obscuration of taking and abandoning samsara and so on refers to: Bodhisattvas approach samsara by the power of compassion, and by the power of wisdom, they truly see the faults of samsara, because of emptiness, they take birth by looking at sentient beings without afflictions, this is non-abiding nirvana, because they do not abide in both samsara and nirvana. Its obscuration refers to approaching samsara while being oppressed by afflictions, and after truly seeing the faults of samsara, abandoning samsara without compassion. Others say that because it becomes an obstacle to both compassion and wisdom, not understanding is the obscuration here. Or, as it is said in the Ratnakuta Sutra, his mind also abides in nirvana, and his actions also abide in samsara, like this, this is the non-abiding nirvana of the bodhisattvas. For them, because they turn their backs on nirvana, they enter samsara with their minds and actions, like beings without roots of virtue. Similarly, because they turn their backs on samsara, with the mind and actions that tend towards nirvana, samsara also

I will send to those of the Hearer lineage, just as they are. Thus, taking samsara and abandoning it are also obstacles to the non-abiding nirvana of the Bodhisattvas, because they fall into one extreme of either samsara or nirvana. When Bodhisattvas become Tathagatas, they abandon the obscurations of afflictions and knowledge, and do not abide in samsara, and even in nirvana without remainder of aggregates, the continuity of the Dharma body is not interrupted. They do not abide in nirvana like the Hearers and others, thus they do not abide in either samsara or nirvana. Here, the path of Bodhisattvas and Hearers, and the union of the two, the result, and the obstacles to non-abiding nirvana, these five obscurations are as many as their number. Thus, "as appropriate" means how it is suitable. Among them, the first and the last are the obscurations of those of the Bodhisattva lineage. The first and the last are the obscurations of those of the Hearer lineage and others. The other two are the obscurations of both. Among them, the obscuration of knowledge is said to be the obscuration of the Bodhisattvas, and it should be known that it is non-afflictive ignorance. How many kinds of afflictive obscurations are there in the obscurations of both, what is their nature, and whose obstacles they become are not known, therefore it is said, "The nature of afflictions is ninefold," connected with obscuration. The nature of afflictions is the nature of afflictions. What are those nine aspects like? Therefore, it is said, "All fetters." Because they are bound together with various sufferings, they are all fetters. Various sufferings are also the body belonging to the desire realm, the form realm, and the formless realm, that is, the suffering of suffering, the suffering of change, and the suffering of conditioning, which are connected with the three realms as appropriate. That is also from the fetters of attachment to the fetters of stinginess. Among them, anger is hatred. Jealousy is intolerance of the perfection of others.

It is. Stinginess is holding on to all possessions. These three belong to desire. The subsequent attachment is the clinging to the three realms. Similarly, pride, ignorance, views, clinging, and the clinging of doubt are all of the three realms. The view of the perishable aggregate and the view of holding to extremes, as well as wrong views, are the clinging of views. Views and the clinging to precepts and vows are the clinging of clinging. Doubt is having two minds about the truth and the Three Jewels. Other near-afflictions such as anger are also the same cause as afflictions, and because they have become afflictions, they are the obscurations of afflictions. Jealousy and stinginess are the main ones, so they are considered to be clinging. The Sutra Pitaka also says this: "Kauśika! Gods and humans are the clinging of jealousy and stinginess." So, what are these obstacles to? Therefore, it is said: "Disgust and equanimity, and the sight of that alone." Disgust belongs to the category of aversion. Therefore, it is said that the clinging of subsequent attachment is an obstacle to universal disgust. Because it is attached to the body, life, enjoyment, children, etc., as well as to meditation and the formless realms, even if threatened by the suffering of samsara, it will not be disgusted with the three realms. The clinging of anger is an obstacle to equanimity. If you ask why, therefore it is said that it is widely called disharmony. Because it is the cause of inner displeasure, it is disharmony. One cannot treat the root of anger, that is, the cause of anger, with equanimity, nor can it be manifested. The root of attachment is that there is no disharmony, so it cannot be treated with equanimity. The root of similar anger is also anger at disharmony, so it cannot be treated with equanimity. Therefore, in order to show that it is more sinful than attachment, the word "also" is said. When entering into samadhi, if one attains the equanimity of action, then his mind will become equal. If his clinging of anger
