It combines and establishes with desires and views that are (in)compatible, as well as discipline and asceticism, and views of clinging to self. Just like that, due to the attachment of desire, consciousness abides there. For the sake of manifestation, it is also said here that when asked by others, the karma created by oneself has matured, for the sake of manifesting the cause of being able to arise again (in samsara). Just like the karma previously created also becomes the cause of consciousness, in the period of habit, for the sake of the fruit of maturation, obtaining the opportunity to enter (samsara), so that existence can be established, and establishing existence can be achieved and manifested. Thus, existence, for the sake of manifestation, makes wandering (in samsara) become afflicted. For the sake of suffering, it means that birth, old age, sickness, and death make wandering (in samsara) become afflicted. Like this, from existence, existence manifests again, and when initially entering the womb, in the semen and blood, consciousness becomes afflicted due to intoxication. Similarly, in the mother's womb, between the state of entering and not entering, it becomes afflicted due to turning over. Moreover, the mother's food and behavior are depressing and disgusting, and not abandoning them also becomes afflicted. Similarly, it becomes afflicted because (the fetus) arises from an impure path. After birth, the characteristics of aging such as graying hair, as well as the characteristics of death where name and form are destroyed, and the decline of youth and life due to stinginess, make wandering (in samsara) become afflicted. Because it causes wandering, it is wandering, which is the term for completely wandering from a homogeneous state to a momentary state. The meaning of causing affliction is: Because of birth, old age, sickness, death, etc., in the three realms, passing from one moment to another, coming and going, it is a term for danger. Some say that because it is not completely purified, it is called affliction. Like this, the characteristic of complete affliction, the twelve links of dependent origination, this, because of obscuration, etc., transforms into aspects that are inconsistent with complete purification in eleven meanings. The order of ignorance, etc., is that the former produces the latter.

Returning to the question, if the twelve links of dependent origination are briefly summarized, how many types of afflictions do they reveal? Therefore, it is said that the twelve links of dependent origination, which are also three and two types, are referred to as the seven afflictions. The word "also" is a term for summarizing and interchanging. Affliction itself is all-pervasive affliction, so it is the all-pervasive affliction of affliction, and the all-pervasive affliction of karma and the all-pervasive affliction of birth are also the same. When affliction arises, it is an all-pervasive affliction because it harms oneself and others. The sutra also says, "As the attachment of craving completely binds, one thinks it is harmful to oneself, harmful to others, and harmful to both." Similarly, hatred and delusion should also be understood. Because the all-pervasive afflictions of karma and birth arise, it is also an all-pervasive affliction. Thus, due to the dominance of affliction, karma propels birth, and even if one realizes the truth, one will not be reborn. Because afflictions universally arise, they also cause the seed of existence to become existence, so the mind with afflictions is also the close acquisition that connects rebirth. It is also the cause of the all-pervasive affliction of birth. Therefore, an Arhat does not have a mind with afflictions, so there is no connection of close acquisition. Karma also has virtuous and non-virtuous karma, which at that time becomes the cause of physical and mental suffering, and in the future will also produce ripening results, so it is an all-pervasive affliction. Birth is also the place of all harm, so it is an affliction. Because the causes are divided into two types, there are three all-pervasive afflictions. The all-pervasive afflictions of affliction are ignorance, craving, and grasping, because all three are the nature of affliction. The all-pervasive afflictions of karma refer to formations and existence, because both are the nature of karma. This is the distinction: the karma that exists in its own essence is formations, and that which exists in seed form is existence. The all-pervasive afflictions of birth are consciousness, name and form, and the six sense sources.
