Do. At such a time, the object of focus does not even appear as a dream. There is no difference between grasping at the past, future, and present, and being deluded by dreams and sleep. Therefore, to say that experiencing things is the object of the consciousness of dreams is merely conceptualization. Since there is no past and no object, it is certain that consciousness itself appears as a thing in a dream. Thus, by focusing on mere consciousness, one meditates without focusing on objects. Based on not focusing on things, the arising of not focusing even on mere consciousness means: Just as there is no apprehended object of complete imputation outside of consciousness, and the power of mere consciousness causes one to enter into non-apprehension, so too, through the power of non-apprehension, one also understands that mere consciousness does not exist. Because the apprehended is relied upon to establish the apprehender, if there is no apprehended, there can be no apprehender. Thus, the apprehended and the apprehender enter into the characteristic of the emptiness of their own nature, which is completely imputed. This shows that it is not an unreal conceptualization. Why is it that one does not initially establish that mere consciousness itself does not exist? Because the apprehender depends on the apprehended, if there is no object to be focused on, it will be easy to enter because the entity of the object of focus is destroyed. Otherwise, because the apprehended and the apprehender are mutually independent, it would become an accusation of things. By continuously entering into the gatherings and completely perfecting the first countless eons, one understands this through the wisdom that transcends the conceptualization of the apprehended and the apprehender. Thus, relying on this mere consciousness and meditating on the absence of form, etc., the samadhi called "warmth," which is the initial nature of the path that transcends the world, along with its retinue, becomes manifest. After that is the peak. After that is the patience samadhi, which is in accordance with not focusing on the apprehender by not focusing on all the apprehended. After that, based on not focusing on things, one meditates on not focusing even on mere consciousness, and the supreme mundane dharma, along with wisdom, etc.

The samadhi and its retinue will become manifest. After that is the path of seeing, and in that itself, because of realizing that the realm of phenomena is all-pervasive, it is called entering the first ground. This is merely appropriate attention, and not attention with faith like the immeasurable ones, because the object of focus is the nature of non-objectification, to thoroughly show this reason. Therefore it is said: The object of focus, is established as the nature of non-objectification. Or, because it is known individually by each in this way, to thoroughly show that what was previously vowed, that in non-true imputation there is no duality, therefore it is said: The object of focus, is established as the nature of non-objectification. The reason for saying "therefore" is because there is no object of focus as an entity of meaning. If the object of focus is considered to be any of the things, the agent, or the action, since there is no action, all three are not possible, therefore the object of focus is established as the nature of non-objectification. Precisely because of this, the commentator said that if there is no object of focus, then it is not possible to focus, so it is said. Therefore, one should know that the object of focus and non-objectification are equal. Like this, the object of focus has become the nature of non-objectification, therefore it is equal. Because there is no objectification of the object, and also there is no object of focus in the mere appearance of consciousness, because there is no difference, one should know that it is the same. In order to eliminate the mutual contradiction between the words object of focus and non-objectification, it is said, "Because it appears in the non-true sense, it is called object of focus," because it has no meaning, it does not focus on anything. Therefore, in the ultimate truth, it is also the nature of non-objectification, so there is no contradiction. Others say that one should know that the nature of what children focus on as meaningful in the meaningless, and what the noble ones do not focus on as meaningful, are the same, so they are equal, just as the illusion of a snake is non-objectification. Precisely because of this, just as the explanation of the illusion of a snake is non-objectification, although it is the nature of non-objectification, because it appears in the non-true sense, it is said to be the object of focus. Others say that children are attached to
