It is for the sake of complete separation. Just as one who emanates something eats the emanation, similarly, by knowing that things have no substance, one also eats the very knowledge that is merely consciousness. Because clinging to things is called consciousness, if there are no things, then even mere consciousness does not exist. To conceptualize in a truly correct way is also an extreme, and to conceptualize in a wrong way is also an extreme. When in accordance with the aspect of certainty, if one individually distinguishes correctly, then one falls into the extremes of either correctness or wrongness. How is this? The truly correct way is all the uncontaminated dharmas, and the wrong way is all the contaminated dharmas. If, when individually distinguishing correctly, one clings to purity, then contaminated virtue will not become individually distinguished in a correct way. If one thinks that it is only the characteristic of not being true, then it will also become wrong, like the virtue associated with the three realms, because those two extremes are completely abandoned. The example of fire arising from two pieces of wood is like this light protector. For example, fire arises from two pieces of wood being rubbed by the wind, and as soon as it arises, it burns those two pieces of wood. Similarly, if the light protector has correct discrimination, the power of the noble wisdom arises, and as soon as it arises, it burns the correct discrimination itself. Its meaning is this: for example, fire arises from two pieces of wood that are not the characteristic of fire, and after arising, it also burns the two pieces of wood. Similarly, from correct discrimination, which is not the characteristic of truth, the power of the noble wisdom, which is the characteristic of truth, arises, and after arising, it also burns the correct discrimination itself, that is, it makes it completely perish. Complete perishing is also like burning, so it is called burning, because the transformation is seen. Although this correct discrimination is contaminated, it is shown to be called correct discrimination because it is in accordance with the truth. To conceptualize doing is also an extreme, and to conceptualize not doing is also an extreme. How is this? Therefore, wisdom is doing because it precedes the mind.

Or, it is said to think that there is no power. If one thinks that this wisdom can remove ignorance, and enters in order to remove it, this is the extreme of conceptualizing in the manner of an agent. Since wisdom is momentary, it does not exist at the time of acting. Therefore, thinking that there is no power to remove ignorance is the extreme of conceptualizing in a non-agent manner. In order to completely abandon these two extremes of conceptualization, an example is given, like a lamp. Light-Guardian, look like this: for example, when a lamp appears, all darkness disappears, but the Light-Guardian lamp does not think, "I have dispelled all darkness." However, relying on the lamp, darkness disappears. Similarly, Light-Guardian, when wisdom arises, ignorance disappears, but wisdom does not think, "I have dispelled ignorance." However, relying on wisdom, darkness disappears, that is what is said. It will be taught like this: for example, a lamp is empty of agency and does not think of dispelling darkness, but in the place where conditions come together, just by the presence of the lamp, all darkness disappears. Similarly, in whatever continuum non-conceptual wisdom arises, just by its presence, ignorance disappears from that continuum, because wisdom is non-conceptual and without deliberation. Therefore, wisdom has no power of agency, and like a lamp, it eliminates the opposing side just by being present. Conceptualizing that there is no arising is also an extreme. Conceptualizing that it is simultaneous is also an extreme. If you ask why, therefore it is said, if the antidote has not arisen, etc. Like this, for as long as the antidote has not arisen in the past, it will not arise now either, thinking like this is the extreme of thinking that there is no arising. Or, thinking that defilements are long-lasting means that ignorance and wisdom exist incompatibly, so there is no power for wisdom to arise. Even if it arises in a hundred, because ignorance has been present for a long time, that momentary wisdom cannot remove it. Therefore, defilements and purification, both
