, therefore it is said, because that itself is the cause of fear. That is shown in this way: just as the sky follows all forms and cannot be removed, emptiness on all dharmas exists at all times and places and cannot be removed. Without abandoning dharmas, it is also impossible to remove it from the existence of emptiness; by removing dharmas, emptiness is not established either. Therefore, this is not a place of fear, thus it is shown. Differentiating what is fearful is also an extreme. Differentiating fear arising from what is fearful is also an extreme, because what one fears becomes a fearful thing. From that, fear arises, so it is fear, and from that, unpleasant fruits arise. Differentiating that fearful thing and that fear is an extreme. For example, therefore, it is said that due to suffering, the mind is terrified, and one fears the imputed forms and so on. Children impute the nature of imputed objects, forms, etc., as real, and then fear the unpleasant results that arise from them. Therefore, due to suffering, the mind is terrified, and one fears and dreads those forms, etc., and their characteristics. In order to completely abandon those two extremes of differentiation, the example of a painter is given. As Light-Holder (འོད་སྲུངས།) says: For example, a painter himself paints a terrifying image of a yaksha, and then he himself feels fear and dread, falls face down and faints. Similarly, Light-Holder, children, individual beings, revolve in samsara due to those forms, sounds, smells, tastes, and tactile objects that they themselves have created, but they do not truly know the reality of those dharmas as they are. Just as a painter himself paints a terrifying image of a yaksha, and due to wrong differentiation, believes that the yaksha is real, and therefore feels fear and faints. Similarly, children enter into wrong differentiation, and all momentary situations are created by themselves, that is to say, they are bound by their own differentiations and revolve in samsara, with similar

Because it does not remain for even a moment. The previous example starts from the Hearers and so on. This example starts from the Bodhisattvas. Some say that the Hearers are frightened by emptiness because they have not fully familiarized themselves with emptiness. Bodhisattvas are afflicted by all the imputed dharmas, because conceptualization is affliction. Others say that there is actually no difference between these two, but they are spoken of as two due to the difference in the two types of faculties. Still others say that the Hearers do not realize what should be realized because they are afraid of emptiness. Bodhisattvas are afraid of the imputed dharmas. Some say that the former is the antidote to grasping at self, and the latter is the antidote to grasping at dharmas. Conceptualization of the grasped is also an extreme, and conceptualization of the grasper is also an extreme. The grasped is form and so on, and the grasper of that, which is the collection of consciousness, how can those, which can be known by their own characteristics and results, become fabricated natures like self and so on? Therefore, the complete conceptualization of the two, the grasped and the grasper, as real, is considered an extreme here. In order to completely abandon these two extremes of conceptualization, the example of illusion is given. As it says in the Illuminator: For example, a magician conjures up an illusionary emanation, and that illusionary emanation eats the magician himself, similarly, Illuminator, whatever object a Bhikshu yogi contemplates, all of those appear to accumulate on it. It is extensively explained like this. So how does this completely abandon these two extremes of conceptualization? Therefore, by knowing only consciousness, one knows that objects are without reality. After knowing that objects are without reality, one can also eliminate the very knowing of only consciousness. Because if there is no real object, consciousness cannot exist. Therefore, it is said, "This is similar to that," the magician is like knowing only consciousness, and the Yaksha conjured by illusion is like knowing that objects are without reality, and knowing that objects are without reality is knowing only consciousness.
