That is, a synonym for "subduing sentient beings." Subduing by the master, that is, becoming the lord, means who is the lord of whom? That is, the wheel-turning king and others become the lord, the sovereign of the four continents, so it is the subduer of sentient beings of the four continents and so on. Thus, those who are subdued by aspirations and so on, and who subdue the thought of not abandoning, are also temporarily unable to accomplish the benefit of these because of the body of one lifetime. Therefore, below that is the distinction of being born into existence, that is, being born into the realm of desire by the power of karma, which means that in the stage of faith and practice, it is due to the power of fully upholding white karma. In order to fully ripen sentient beings, one is also born in inferior places such as animals, which means that at the time of realization, the evil destinies of Bodhisattvas will recede. Even if they recede, they will be born in evil destinies by the power of aspiration. By the power of samadhi, what is it like to retreat from meditation and be born in the realm of desire? It is said in the sutras that if Bodhisattvas are skilled in retreating from meditation, is retreating from meditation abandoning meditation? The answer is: no. Retreating from the fruit of meditation is retreating from meditation, that is, retreating from the fruit of meditation, being born in the realm of form, retreating from that, that is, being born in the realm of desire. The birth of the noble ones just mentioned is also infinite due to the difference in the order of births. Because of the degree of purification of sentient beings, it is necessary to explain how to establish the forms of size, so below that are the ten stages of the state of purification. The fourth is that although one mostly dwells in accordance with the aspects of enlightenment, the aspects of enlightenment are all dedicated to samsara, which means that the dharmas in accordance with the aspects of enlightenment are all collected in samsara. Bodhisattvas are skilled in means, and practice the aspects of enlightenment because they are embraced by great compassion. That is like leaning on beings and dwelling, because it is embraced by great compassion, it is dedicated to samsara, and it benefits sentient beings with the ears.

It is not abiding turning away from samsara. The fifth is that because one abides extensively in the four noble truths, one will not become completely afflicted. Therefore, because there is no complete affliction in the mind, it causes sentient beings to fully ripen; this is the characteristic of the fifth ground. There, the so-called "subsequently accomplishing afflictions" means that for the sake of this, contemplating whatever birth one takes, one abides many times due to dependent arising, and therefore one will not become completely afflicted. The seventh is that due to mixing and near mixing, it is the single path connected to the eighth ground, it is the path that is determined as one without signs. As for the so-called mixing, it refers to bodhisattvas abiding in the signless, and those abiding in the seventh ground. Near mixing refers to bodhisattvas who have attained the path of non-conceptualization, and those abiding in the eighth ground. If one has not attained the eighth ground, how can it be near mixing? The term "near" refers to being close, therefore, this bodhisattva abides at the ultimate peak of the signless, and is in a state of proximity to those abiding in the non-conceptual, and attains it without interruption, therefore it is called near mixing. Alternatively, it is called mixing and near mixing because of meditating on the path with conceptualization. The phrase "in order to obtain the wisdom that is the antidote to the view of person and phenomena" means in order to obtain non-discriminating wisdom. In the third, the so-called "being in equipoise in order to obtain non-declining meditative absorption and samadhi" means that even in the state of other lifetimes, one will not decline from those meditative absorptions. In the fourth, the so-called "in order to abandon the pride of difference in doctrines such as the sutras, it is abandoning pride in the doctrine" refers to the bodhisattva on the third ground having respect for the doctrine and valuing the doctrine, thinking: Even for a single word of the doctrine, I would be willing to throw myself from the Brahma world into a great trichiliocosm filled with raging fire, what need is there to mention an ordinary pit of fire? Therefore, on the fourth ground, one regresses. How does one regress?
