And those qualities. The so-called "constant" is a synonym for possessing qualities such as knowing shame. The chapter on aspects conducive to enlightenment ends here. This shows all the paths of learning from the perspective of the aims, types, and distinctions of the nature of the bodhisattvas' training. Therefore, those who study will possess the qualities of practice and the qualities of great praise. Therefore, after the chapter on aspects conducive to enlightenment is the chapter on qualities. Among these, there are three types of qualities of practice: qualities that accord with the cause, qualities of separation, and qualities that manifestly incline towards sentient beings. Among these, the qualities that accord with the cause are: because of long-term habituation to the path of learning, it shows that the path of closeness to virtue will not change to other places later on, and it is firm and long-lasting entry. The two verses, "Starting with diligence and of meditation, there is no experience of bliss," explain the qualities that accord with the cause. The fruit of separation is: with the path of seeing and the path of cultivation, because the evil destinies that should be abandoned by them have been abandoned, therefore it is a place without defilement. Such as "The Tathagata lineage arises," etc., which will be explained, this is the path of seeing. From then on, until the eighth bhumi obtaining prediction and the tenth bhumi obtaining empowerment, this is the path of cultivation. Obtaining enlightenment is the business of the Buddha. Thus, because of possessing excellent qualities, one will obtain the qualities that are not surprising. For all sentient beings, starting from the chapter on self and equanimity, "How intelligent sentient beings," etc., which will be explained, is like that. Equanimity is constantly striving to benefit, classifying from the benefit itself, such as "Becoming a vessel itself," etc., sixteen verses will appear, like that. It should be known that this quality of benefit itself is the quality of manifestly inclining towards sentient beings. It is also hoped to repay the benefit, classifying from repaying the benefit, such as "Not attached to enjoyments," etc.

Etc., will be explained. Thus, striving diligently is to always wish for their benefit and happiness. From the differentiation of aspirations, such as "constant increase and decrease, etc.," will be explained. Thus, those with thoughts of benefit and happiness will not waste their efforts on them. Differentiating non-waste itself, such as "abandoning fear, truly generating, etc.," will be explained. This refers to the distinction of the qualities of practice becoming higher and higher. Therefore, Bodhisattvas receive predictions through the distinction of the qualities of benefit, but not Śrāvakas and Pratyekabuddhas. Prediction means abiding in the irreversible stage. Abiding in this stage, one must not be possessed by demons and obtain the nature of non-forgetfulness. Thus, those with the nature of non-forgetfulness are regarded by the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas as the most excellent among all beings, and all activities will not completely decline. Even if they decline due to not obtaining, they will not completely decline. Not completely declining is like the waxing moon, constantly growing with virtuous dharmas, becoming a great Bodhisattva, not artificial. A true Bodhisattva knows all the methods of taming sentient beings. Knowing these methods, one becomes skilled in arranging them, able to arrange how one should strive. Being skilled in arranging, one becomes proficient in instructions. Being proficient in instructions, one obtains the king of samādhi that focuses on the immeasurable. Obtaining this samādhi, teaching the Dharma becomes meaningful, explaining in various ways and bringing about results. One will also definitely generate faith in the Mahāyāna. Definitely generating faith in the Mahāyāna, one becomes proficient in the Summary of the Mahāyāna. Thus, from distinguishing the great and the non-great to the stage of summarizing the Mahāyāna, these three qualities, namely having a common cause, being free from (afflictions), and clearly inclining towards sentient beings.

It should be known. After that, the merits that are highly praised by showing the merits of the Bodhisattva will be explained. From the verses, it says, "For the sake of discipline, completely giving up perfection." What is said here is said to show the special intention. Giving up perfection for the sake of discipline is very wonderful for the perfection of morality. It is very wonderful for the perfection of diligence to work hard without regard to body and life. It is not surprising to give alms based on being free from attachment, because Bodhisattvas are yogis who protect emptiness, and for them, it is not surprising to generate freedom from attachment and give completely. Compassion is the form of being free from suffering. Relying on compassion, Bodhisattvas do not cause suffering to others, which is not surprising for the perfection of morality. A compassionate person endures all unpleasant things that arise from the body and speech of others with patience, which is not surprising for the perfection of patience. The equality of mind is only the benefit of learning. Beings' love for themselves and others is not equal, because love for oneself is different, and love for sons, friends, and wives is also different. To show that it is not constant, it is said that sometimes they kill themselves.
