Thus, in order to accomplish entering into benefiting oneself and others, one cultivates the path that is in accordance with it. After that is the time that is in accordance with the aspects of enlightenment. These aspects of the objects of learning of the Bodhisattvas, from the perspective of their nature and distinctions, are all aspects of the path of learning. Therefore, from the time of having shame until the time of realizing the selflessness of the person, all should be understood as the time that is in accordance with the aspects of enlightenment. 'Abandoning the opposite of shame,' this is shown by the very nature of shame. Because of abandoning the opposite, not knowing shame and shamelessness, shame becomes without the opposite, therefore it is said to be the nature of shame. Friend is the non-conceptual wisdom. Object, that which is without fault and inferior, namely the vehicle of the Hearers and Solitary Buddhas, because it is without outflows, it is without fault, and because it is the vehicle of the Hearers, it is inferior. One should rely on the six perfections. 'Shame arises from reliance, from laziness,' which means that when a Bodhisattva should rely on the perfections, if they are lazy towards those six perfections and do not rely on them, if they do not diligently cultivate the perfections, then shame arises. This means that shame arises from cultivation and non-cultivation, that is, cultivating what should not be cultivated. What is cultivating what should not be cultivated? It means that when one is lazy, one cultivates the dharmas that are in accordance with the afflictions. This means small shame and great shame, which should be understood by following what was said before. That is, the shame of the unestablished ground, and the unestablished ground also has small, medium, and inferior, the shame that is equal to the vehicle of the Hearers, and those on the seventh ground who have pride, all the shame that has been shown in this way is inferior. If one compares the ground with shame, then it is also inferior and also superior. The opposite of that is superior, namely those who are on the established ground, and compared to those on the unestablished ground, except for small and medium, great shame and the shame of the eighth ground and so on, should be known as superior.

The wise but shameless one, with the afflictions of improper attention, is said to accept them, because improper attention is constantly practiced, thus harming oneself. Anger harms others. Laziness and pride harm both. Therefore, after laziness and pride, it is said: They destroy beings and discipline. Laziness means being careless about the affairs of sentient beings. Pride means not going even to the lowest of sentient beings, and not causing them to practice virtue. Thus, it harms sentient beings. To oneself as well, laziness abandons entering into virtue, and accepts entering into non-virtue. Pride, too, because of arrogance, does not go to the virtuous friend, and does not engage in service, offerings, listening to the Dharma, and so on. Therefore, encountering an unvirtuous friend harms this discipline. What is harmed by pride is that even if one knows a little, one does not show it to others, and in the long run, one does not engage in benefiting sentient beings, thus harming oneself and others. Regret harms oneself, because constantly practicing anger and so on, as mentioned before, results in regret. Therefore, one who regrets scolds oneself. Because of inferior respect, one scolds others. "Faithful non-human assemblies, etc." is for observation. It means that the teacher acts with abandonment, and scolds with actions like those of a donkey. The Blessed One, knowing that this is not a vessel for the noble Dharma, abandons it. Brahmacharis, the virtuous ones, scold in this way with the nature of Dharma, meaning they scold with an aspect that is in accordance with the Dharma. Because unpleasant things arise in directions and intermediate directions, it is synonymous with obtaining worldly unpleasantness. It means that the suffering and discomfort that arise in the mind from this will be experienced separately. Suffering is...

It exists in accordance with the five kinds of wisdom. Discomfort exists in accordance with the consciousness of the mind. By shame, the accumulation is perfected, which is called the fruit of autonomy, because shame is the root of all virtues, and by it, the accumulation is perfected. This shows that a person without shame, even if wearing other clothes, is stained by sin. Shame is a particularly excellent garment, meaning that when a child covers the body with clothes, although no dirt such as dust arises, because the inner mind has defilements such as desire, even if wearing clothes, it is still defiled, so it is called defiled. A Bodhisattva covered with the garment of shame, even without clothes, is free from defilements such as inner desire. Only his body is free from defilement, only he is clothed, and others are not. Therefore, it is said in the sutra: The prince has the garment of shame, and although there is no covering, he is free from the defilement of sin. This shows that it is like the sky and ornaments. Like the sky, like ornaments. It is said thus: Just as the sky is naturally pure and is not stained by clouds and fog, so a Bodhisattva with shame is not stained by worldly dharmas such as gain and loss. How is it similar to ornaments? Just as some ordinary people adorn themselves with various ornaments and go into the crowd and appear beautiful, so a Bodhisattva adorned with the ornament of shame is also beautiful. Abandoning the sentient beings to be saved, because of shame, means that the Bodhisattva is as loving as a mother, and in order to completely save them from the suffering of samsara, he abandons himself, and if some sentient beings fall into evil paths, it is not permissible, and for the benefit of sentient beings, he is constantly in caution. Like horses and elephants, it means that just as the king protects with elephants, horses, and chariots, etc.
