It is called being without focus. Because for them, in that state, it is not that there is no focus on suchness. The five consciousnesses, like non-conceptualization, are called non-conceptualizations. Because the element increases, it is called completely pure, because white dharma increases, abandoning unfavorable aspects such as hatred, the seeds of love and so on increase, hence it is called element increase. Because the element increases, love and so on attain complete purity and spontaneous accomplishment in the eighth ground and so on. Therefore, in that state, it is called without focus. Two actions, namely the actions of body and speech, are called being gathered by the similar cause of love, meaning that the actions of body and speech that are aroused by love, whatever is peaceful, is called the similar cause of love. The actions of body and speech are also without focus because they are gathered by the aggregate of form. Therefore, taking love as the proximate cause for it, it is called love without focus. When afflictions are exhausted, the immeasurable ones are without focus. How is it known? Like this, afflictions are said to be the object of focus, because the knots of the mind are abandoned, therefore the object of focus is explained, a section of the sutra demonstrates this. Afflictions are said to be the object of focus, therefore, because afflictions are abandoned, love and so on are without focus. The cessation of afflictions, because it does not exist, is without focus, because cessation is disappearance. Called having the share of abiding and transformation, meaning having the share of abiding and the share of transformation. Among them, the small ones are six kinds, called what are the six kinds? Non-absorption, small, medium, inferior ground, inferior intention, and those with pride. These six are inferior, they are small. Others are superior, meaning what are the others like? Absorption, which is the opposite of non-absorption, is more superior than non-absorption. The great ones are more superior than the small ones. The superior grounds are more superior than the inferior grounds, in the ground of faith practice they are small. In the ground of great joy they are great.

In this case, the small ones are like this. For the stainless ones, they are great. Similarly, the grounds are increasingly higher, surpassing the lower grounds. The Hearers and Solitary Buddhas are inferior. The Buddhas and Bodhisattvas are superior. Those with arrogance, in the seventh ground, are separated from the tolerance of the unoriginated dharma. Above that, because they have obtained the tolerance of the unoriginated dharma, they are superior. The abiding in the Brahma-viharas, what is the cause of that? It is the ripening and so on. For example, Bodhisattvas abide in inconceivable samadhi, and through practicing the Brahma-viharas, from the perspective of being born in the form realm, they are born in the desire realm in relation to the tamed beings. This is its ripening fruit. The 'lord fruit' mentioned in 'perfecting all gatherings' refers to the fact that by the power of the Brahma-viharas, all gatherings are perfected, and this is called the lord fruit. The 'man-made fruit' mentioned in 'causing sentient beings to fully ripen' means that the man-made action also changes due to the difference in diligence, and the full ripening of sentient beings cannot occur without the difference in diligence. Therefore, whatever arises from the man-made action is called the man-made fruit. The 'sign' mentioned in 'even unpleasant conditions will not change' refers to the fact that even seeing unpleasant situations such as hatred, there will be no change. Through this sign, others will know that this person has attained loving-kindness and so on. Hatred and desire for lust are equanimity, which refers to following attachment and anger. Desire follows attachment, and hatred causes anger. Destroying morality harms both. What is destroying morality like? How does destroying it harm both? The antidote is weak, driven by hatred and harm, so the correctly upheld morality will practice more virtuous dharmas.
