The paths of calm abiding and insight should be understood as encompassing all mental activities. There are two types of beneficial mental activities: "eliminating negative states," which refers to eliminating negative states of the body and mind. Negative states of the body involve engaging in non-virtuous actions such as killing. Negative states of the mind involve indulging in afflictions that provoke them. "Eliminating the characteristics of views" means that views themselves are characteristics, such as the view of the aggregates as a self. The mental activity that eliminates the characteristics of views is the mental activity that eliminates the characteristics of views. "Applying close examination of the object of samadhi" refers to the mental activity of the mind focused on samadhi during the time of application. "Applying close examination of abiding" means, by what means does one closely examine the two aspects of abiding? "Abiding with measure refers to letters" means that letters, such as A A (ཨ་ཨཱ་,梵文天城体:अ आ,IAST: a ā,Meaning: A A), starting from A and ending with Ksha (ཀྵ་,梵文天城体:क्ष,IAST: kṣa,Meaning: Ksha), have forty-eight letters, so they are measurable. Thus, letters abide with measure. "Abiding without measure refers to names and sentences" means that because countless hundreds of thousands of Sutra sections are objects of focus, there are immeasurable names and sentences in those Sutra sections. "Letters are not to be completely conceptualized" means that a single letter is not a name, and without a name, one cannot completely conceptualize the meaning. Furthermore, "What is Ka (ཀ་,梵文天城体:क,IAST: ka,Meaning: Ka) is said to be the lord of beings," and "Ko (ཀོ་,梵文天城体:को,IAST: ko,Meaning: Ko) is said to be wind," etc. Those are also not the same letter because they possess A (ཨ་,梵文天城体:अ,IAST: a,Meaning: A) and should be separated by a tsheg (་). "The application of sequential close examination is, by what means does one closely examine the entry into grasping the meaning by one who first grasps the name?" This means that in the world, initially, for the sake of naming things, names such as Devadatta, pot, cloth, etc., are given to those respective objects. When a name

Therefore, naming it as "this shows this meaning," at that time, in this order, it is easy to understand that the grasping of name precedes the grasping of meaning. Therefore, one will become proficient in those meanings and those terms. The so-called "realizer combiner" is the fifth. That is eleven aspects: the so-called "realizing suddenness" means that the name is sudden for the meaning, and the meaning is also sudden for the name, because there is no wisdom about the meaning before the name. The so-called "realizing the reason for appearance" means that the reason for appearing as meaning is the mind and mental factors, the mistaken apprehended and apprehender appearances, etc. This is realized in the heat and peak stages. The so-called "realizing non-objectification of meaning" is in the forbearance stage. The so-called "objectifying non-objectification" is in the supreme stage of worldly dharma, because "without that, there is no that." If the apprehended meaning does not exist, then what does the apprehending mind objectify? Therefore, it also becomes non-objectifying, and after that, if there is no apprehended and apprehender, then it is realizing the dharmadhatu. The so-called "realizing inferior intention" refers to those of the Hearer Vehicle. The so-called "realizing how to establish the realized dharma" is in the stage of true seeing. The so-called "realizing the establishment of dharma" is in the stage of truly realizing on the path of cultivation. The so-called "manifestly accomplishing virtues, extremely pure" means that any attention that manifestly accomplishes special virtues. After obtaining attention, it is the stage of completely seeking the meaning of the suchness of dharma, thus, by obtaining one-pointedness of mind, one will realize the suchness of all dharmas. That is the non-deceptive suchness, and whatever is non-inverted. By obtaining transcendent wisdom, whatever is objectified is suchness, it is a general examination of the suchness of all defiled and purified dharmas. The suchness of the nature of complete imputation is separated from duality, and the appearance as duality itself is delusion, as long as one objectifies with this delusion, then its truth will not be objectified.
