It is Buddhahood itself. If one analyzes in this way and feels satisfied, it is because Buddhahood itself is attained through great diligence, long-term habituation, overcoming many difficulties, and achieving excellence. I too am one who has made aspirations for enlightenment, so I should attain Buddhahood in this way. If one thinks in this way and belittles others, feeling a sense of loss, it is because they always engage in pride, and therefore they will be far from Buddhahood. Alternatively, the word "pride" should be seen as a synonym for the discriminating thoughts referred to here. All of these are merely discriminations, that is, what was just said about the long lama and the signs, and so on. The reason for saying "at the time of obtaining forbearance of the unborn dharma" is that the path does not manifestly arise on the eighth ground. The distinctions of the objects of training have been explained. Now, how to train will be explained. How does one train? On the path of application, in what ways does one train? Through the doors of the distinctions of intention, application, accomplishing benefit for others, accomplishing benefit for oneself, and the complete purification and definite arising of benefit for oneself and others. How does one train through intention? Having faith in the sacred Dharma, seeing that cause and effect are consistent and not inverted, and that self and other benefit, etc., are encompassed by the five bases, therefore, one must first strive to engage in definite investigation of the profound and vast Dharma, and therefore this is the stage of generating faith under the Bodhi tree. Alternatively, the seven bases, from the benefit of oneself and others up to enlightenment, which the Bodhisattvas are to train in, have already been explained. Now, how the Bodhisattvas train in what way will be shown. How does one train? Through the stages of faith and completely seeking the Dharma, and so on. How, starting from the meaning of the aggregates, whatever form, whether past, future, present, internal, external, coarse, subtle, bad, excellent, dwelling near or dwelling far, through this sequence, one examines the aggregate of form.

Likewise, the various distinctions of faith are shown, and similarly, faith is also shown by the distinctions of transcendence and so on mentioned in the sutras. That which is taken as the object, the external, that which is the object of faith, is called faith, which is a dharma arising from the mind. When it arises focusing on the Dharma of the Great Vehicle, it is shown as the grasper. When it tastes the past, or rejoices, or is delighted in the future, etc., then it is shown as the grasped. Alternatively, the mind itself always engages with the aspect of duality, therefore faith is spoken of as being of two types. The reason for wrong faith is that, for example, the Hearers of the Hearer Vehicle believe that they will attain Buddhahood only by greatly meditating on the Hearer Vehicle. If one believes in the meaning of intentional statements literally, it is called erring because of wrong faith. Manifest is near, because the conditions are near, which means that as soon as one hears it from a near condition such as a virtuous friend, faith arises. "Seized, mixed, and dissimilar sides unmixed." These various distinctions of faith are spoken of in the sutras by the distinctions of small, medium, large, inferior, vast, obscured, unobscured, diligent, undiligent, accumulated, unaccumulated, shown, and long entered, which are different. Mixed is the middle, which means sometimes faith and sometimes no faith, and because no faith and faith are mixed, it is called mixed. No faith means no desire, laziness, and so on. Obscured means having obscurations for what should be specially advanced, which means that even if there is faith, one cannot obtain excellence because of being connected with bad deeds, therefore it is called obscured. Or, because one has done deeds that cause one to have no faith in future lives and to be deprived of the sacred Dharma, it is called having obscurations. Always means constantly, without interruption. Although it is constant, some do not do it with strong intention, so in order to completely avoid that, it is said to do it with respect. Accumulated means understanding it.
