Possessing and not possessing, and complete inner despondency. One who possesses intelligence is a Bodhisattva. For his superior knowledge, there are three obstacles: not possessing practice, associating with evil people, and associating with hateful people. Among them, an evil person is a foolish person. A hateful person is one who harbors jealousy. For one who is without confusion, there are three obstacles: the adverse circumstances of perversion, and any remainder of the three obstacles such as afflictions, and the wisdom that perfects liberation has not been perfected. Abandoning obstacles is being without obstacles, among which there are three obstacles: the adverse circumstances of being born together, and laziness and carelessness. The three obstacles of complete dedication are: some people completely dedicate their minds to others, but do not dedicate them to the unexcelled, perfectly complete enlightenment, that is, attachment to existence, attachment to enjoyment, and a timid mind. The three obstacles of not being afraid are: thinking that beings cannot exist, not believing in the Dharma, and judging the meaning literally. The three obstacles of not being stingy are: not particularly clinging to the true Dharma and gain, respect, offerings, and not having compassion for sentient beings. The three obstacles of power are: some people cannot obtain power, because they have created the karma that leads to the lack of Dharma, leading to the lack of hearing the Dharma, hearing very little Dharma, and not having fully practiced meditation. This obstacle, for any matter such as virtue, will become ten functions, which should be understood according to the specific circumstances of that matter. Among the ten functions, the arising cause is like the eye, such as eye consciousness and so on. The existing cause is like the four foods of sentient beings. The dependent cause is what becomes what in what place, such as the vessel world of the sentient beings' world. The manifesting cause is like the appearance of form. The transforming cause is like fire and so on, such as cooking. The separating cause is like the object to be indicated.
