This is an explanation of the Middle Way. If one wants to understand which extremes should be abandoned, then, difference and sameness are extremes, both non-Buddhists and Shravakas are extremes, and falsely imputing and slandering the individual and phenomena are also extremes, these extremes are in pairs. Dissimilar sides and antidotal sides are extremes, the notions of permanence and annihilation are extremes, the grasper and the grasped and all afflictions are extremes, purification and non-purification are two and three, the two extremes of discrimination, these are considered to be seven forms. Existence and non-existence are pacified, pacification is frightening, and one is afraid of it. The grasper and the grasped and reality itself, falsity itself and the doer and the non-doer, non-arising and simultaneity, these are the two extremes of discrimination. Therefore, form and so on and the self being different are also extremes, and being one is also an extreme. In order to completely abandon these, it is the Middle Way, that is, from separately discriminating no-self to separately discriminating no seed. To view the self as, the life is other and the body is also other, or to view that the life itself is the body itself, this is the view of self. To think that form and so on are permanent is the extreme of the non-Buddhists, to think that they are impermanent is the extreme of the Shravakas. In order to completely abandon these, it is the Middle Way, that is, one does not think of form and so on as permanent, nor does one think of them as impermanent. To think of self is the extreme of falsely imputing to the individual, to think of no-self is the extreme of slander, because it is slandering the established existence. In order to completely abandon these, it is the Middle Way, that is, the middle between self and no-self is non-discrimination itself. To think that the mind is true is the extreme of falsely imputing to phenomena, to think that the mind is not true is the extreme of slander. In order to completely abandon these, it is the Middle Way, that is, there is no mind, no thought, no intention, and no consciousness. To think that non-virtuous dharmas and so on are all afflictions is the extreme of the dissimilar side, to think that virtuous dharmas and so on are purification is the extreme of the antidotal side. In order to completely abandon these, it is the Middle Way, that is, one does not accept, does not express, and does not speak of these two extremes. To think that the individual and phenomena exist is the extreme of permanence, to think that they do not exist
