It arises without cause, and having arisen, it burns two trees. Likewise, from discriminating reality as it is, though it is not the nature of reality itself, the lord of noble wisdom, which is the nature of reality, is born. And having been born, it utterly destroys that very discrimination of reality. Therefore, this is similar to that. Although the discrimination of reality is not the nature of reality itself, it is also not the nature of error, because it is in accordance with reality. To discriminate with activity is also an extreme. To discriminate without activity is also an extreme. Wisdom discriminates with activity or without power, preceded by intelligence. The example is a lamp, in order to completely abandon those two extremes of discrimination. To discriminate without arising is also an extreme. To discriminate at the same time is also an extreme. If the antidote has not arisen, or to discriminate that the afflictions are long-lasting. The second example is a lamp, in order to abandon those two extremes of discrimination. The accomplishment of abandoning the two extremes has been explained. What is the accomplishment of difference and non-difference? Difference and non-difference should be known in the ten grounds. On whichever ground whichever perfection is most prominent, that is difference. To accomplish everything perfectly in everything is non-difference. The unsurpassed accomplishment has been explained. What is the unsurpassed object? Designation and suchness realm, accomplishment and accomplishment and grasping, definite grasping and superior grasping, superior understanding and superior increase, discrimination and peaceful abiding, and the object of the most excellent. The object is these twelve aspects, such as the object of designation of examining phenomena, and the object of the realm of phenomena, and the object of what is to be accomplished, and the object of accomplishment, and the object of grasping, and the object of definite grasping, and the object of superior grasping, and the object of superior understanding, and the object of superior increase, and the object of discriminating understanding, and the object of peaceful abiding, and the object of the most excellent. Among these, the first is whatever phenomena such as the perfections,

That is the establishment. The second is Suchness. Among them, the third and fourth, according to the order, because of thoroughly understanding the Dharmadhatu, therefore comprehending the Paramitas and other Dharmas. The fifth is the object of knowledge arising from hearing. The sixth is the wisdom arising from thinking, that is, grasping after understanding. The seventh is the wisdom arising from meditation, that is, each individually grasping. The eighth is the path of seeing on the first ground. The ninth is the path of meditation, up to the seventh ground. The tenth is the worldly and transworldly paths on that (path of meditation), because of comprehending all Dharmas. The eleventh is the eighth ground. The twelfth is the ninth ground and the three grounds including it. The first two obtain the name of that object at that time. The object has been explained. What is true accomplishment? Without deficiency and without abandonment, without distraction and perfectly complete, true birth and growth, capable and non-abiding, without obstruction and that, uninterrupted continuity is true accomplishment. True accomplishment is these ten aspects, among which, the lack of complete causes is the true accomplishment of lineage. Not abandoning the Great Vehicle is the true accomplishment of intention. Not being distracted by the Lesser Vehicle is the true accomplishment of generating the mind of enlightenment. Completing the Paramitas is the true accomplishment of practice. Generating the noble path is the true accomplishment of entering without fault. Increasing the roots of virtue is the true accomplishment of maturing all sentient beings for the sake of long-term habituation. The mind being capable is the true accomplishment of purifying all Buddha-fields. Not abiding in Samsara and Nirvana is the true accomplishment of obtaining the prophecy of the irreversible ground, because of not regressing from both Samsara and Nirvana. Without obstruction is the true accomplishment of Buddhahood. That uninterrupted continuity is the true accomplishment of universally showing enlightenment. Thus, this is the Treatise on Distinguishing the Middle and the Extremes, because it is good at showing the Middle Way. This is the middle and the extremes all
