With that, the mind is placed in equanimity. With the mind placed in equanimity, one fully knows things as they are. After generating what is in accordance with the aspect of liberation, if the faculties are taught, then are those in accordance with the aspect of discernment to be known at the time of the faculties, or are they to be known at the time of the powers? (Answer:) In the case of the faculties and the powers, those in accordance with the aspect of discernment are two and two (respectively). The times of the heats and the peaks are the faculties. The times of the patiences and the supreme mundane dharmas are the powers. Below the powers are the limbs of enlightenment. How are those to be established? The nature limb and the place limb, the third is the departure limb, the fourth is the benefit limb, the three are the non-affliction limbs. Those that become limbs of enlightenment on the path of seeing are the limbs of enlightenment. There, mindfulness is the place limb of enlightenment. Discrimination of dharmas is the nature limb. Diligence is the departure limb. Joy is the benefit limb. The three are the limbs without all afflictions, namely, pliancy, samadhi, and equanimity. Why are the three limbs without all afflictions taught? Here, there is a basis and a place, and the nature is taught. All afflictions arise from the cause of bad migrations. Pliancy is the basis of being without all afflictions, because it is its antidote. Samadhi is the place. Equanimity is the nature. Below the limbs of enlightenment are the limbs of the path. How are those to be established? Completely cutting off and making known, the three make others believe, as an antidote to the unfavorable side, those are the eight limbs of the path. Right view is a limb of completely cutting off on the path of seeing at the time of the path of cultivation. The mundane dharma obtained after the supramundane, with this, one completely cuts off one's own realization. Right thought and right speech are limbs of making others know, because with the intention of being together, one makes the speech know. The limb of making others believe is

There are three: right speech, the limit of action, and livelihood. These also, in order, diminish views and disciplinary requisites, wanting to discern for others. By speaking with right speech, through ascertaining related words, one will develop trust in wisdom. The limit of right action refers to discipline, because one does not do what should not be done. Right livelihood refers to diminishing requisites, because one seeks things like cracks in the Dharma in moderation. The limbs of the antidote to the unfavorable side are three: right effort, mindfulness, and concentration. These, in order, are the mastery of afflictions and near afflictions, the antidote to the unfavorable side. The unfavorable side is threefold: afflictions to be abandoned by cultivation, the sinking of near afflictions, and the unfavorable side due to the mastery of agitation, which is an obstacle to accomplishing special qualities. Among these, the antidote to the first is right effort, because one cultivates the path thereby. The second is right mindfulness, because mindfulness abides very closely to the causes of calm abiding and so forth, so there is no sinking or agitation. The third is right concentration, because one abides in meditative concentration and thereby accomplishes qualities such as clairvoyance. If one briefly summarizes the cultivation of the antidote, it can be understood as threefold: conforming to the inverted, reversing with connection, and non-inverted inverted, cultivating without connection. Conforming to the non-inverted while inverted, without inversion, conforming to the inverted connection, and without inversion and without inverted connection, are respectively ordinary beings, trainees, and non-trainees, in order. The objects and mental activities of Bodhisattvas, and attainment, are more excellent thereby, while Hearers and Solitary Buddhas focus on the body and so forth belonging to their own continuum. Bodhisattvas focus on phenomena belonging to the continua of themselves and others. Hearers and Solitary Buddhas consider the body and so forth to be impermanent.
