Enter without fear. This explains the nature, types, and practice of steadfastness. Diligence and so on are the nature, courage and so on are the types, and the rest is the practice. How do these three enter without fear? Due to discouragement, wavering, and ignorance, fear arises towards all things. Therefore, for these three roots, know them as the name of steadfastness. Fear arises towards all things, either due to a discouraged mind, because one is not interested in it; or due to a wavering mind, because the mind does not abide calmly; or due to ignorance, because one does not know its method. The antidotes for these are, in order, diligence and so on. Therefore, one should know that diligence and so on, the three roots, are called steadfastness. The term 'root' means not making distinctions separately. Nature and aspiration, and non-attachment, subduing sentient beings' wrongdoings, profound and vast hearing, the difficult-to-tame disciples, the inconceivable Buddha-body, various austerities, not abandoning samsara, and the absence of afflictions in that, the steadfastness of steadfastness arises, dissimilar to others, it is considered the supreme among the steadfast. These three verses show the excellent distinctions of steadfastness, in order: lineage, bodhicitta, self-benefit, benefiting others, the meaning of Suchness, power, making sentient beings fully ripen, and through the gate of supreme enlightenment. Among these, non-attachment should be understood from entering self-benefit without regard for body and life. Also, practicing austerities, and intentionally taking rebirth, and there being no door of any afflictions there, are also excellent distinctions. Like butterflies and birds, and the ocean to Mount Meru, steadfastness is not shaken by bad friends, suffering, and profound hearing. This shows the immovability of the Bodhisattva's steadfastness, and one should know that these three metaphors are, in order, not being shaken by the three. The two verses of the classification of non-weariness are:

The unequalled one who is not weary of enlightenment, the three bases are not satisfied by hearing, great diligence and suffering, abiding in shame and steadfastness, strong desire for great enlightenment. The non-weariness of the wise, in the grounds they desire incompleteness, completeness, and utter completeness. These two show non-weariness through the basis, support, nature, and the gate of excellent distinction. The three bases are not being satisfied by hearing, engaging in diligence for a long time, and the suffering of samsara. Relying on being ashamed and steadfast, they also become ashamed and not weary from the arising of weariness. What is called strong desire for great enlightenment is the nature, because if desire is reversed, it turns into weariness. Incompleteness is the ground of practice with faith. Completeness is the seven grounds. Utter completeness is the ground beyond that, this is the excellent distinction. Two verses on the knowledge of the treatise itself: The steadfast knowledge of the treatise itself, the basis and the purpose, action and characteristics, inexhaustibility and the fruit, are particularly excellent through proper accomplishment. Samadhi and dharani, etc., are included, causing sentient beings to mature, and also holding the true Dharma. Therein, the basis of the knowledge of the treatise itself is the five sciences, namely, inner science, logic, grammar, medicine, and the science of craftsmanship. The purpose is to benefit oneself and others. The action is to accomplish self-nature in the first basis and also to properly show it to others, in the second to fully know its faults and subdue the opponent, in the third to speak well of the words of self-determination and make others believe, in the fourth to completely pacify the diseases of others, and in the fifth to distribute it to others. The characteristic of the knowledge of the treatise itself is that these five bases themselves are heard and held, purified by words, examined by mind, and well understood by sight, after hearing, holding it in order, reciting it, and thinking about the meaning with the very first mind through the gate of understanding the faults and qualities of those as appropriate.
