That side is impaired, possessing non-discriminating wisdom, fulfilling all desires completely, maturing sentient beings in three ways, the characteristics of generosity are fourfold, similarly, these such as discipline should also be understood in the same way. The opposing aspects of these are immoral discipline, anger, laziness, distraction, and immoral wisdom, in that order. The very act of completely fulfilling all desires is that discipline and so forth cause others to perfectly restrain all physical and verbal actions, to be patient with those who harm, to be a friend, to be pleasing to the mind, and to cut off doubts, thus fulfilling desires completely. The very act of maturing sentient beings is that discipline and so forth cause them to be satisfied, thus maturing the three vehicles. Verses distinguishing the order: The former relies on the latter, residing in inferior and superior, coarse and subtle, therefore, these are taught in order. Those such as generosity are taught in order by three reasons, because the latter arises relying on the former, that is, taking the discipline of not looking at enjoyment as correct. Having discipline, one becomes patient. Having patience, one initiates diligence. Having initiated diligence, one generates samadhi. Having placed the mind evenly, one knows correctly as it is. Because the former is inferior and the latter resides in superior, that is, generosity is inferior and discipline is superior, similarly, meditation is inferior and wisdom is superior. Because the former is coarse and the latter is subtle, that is, generosity is coarse because it is easy to enter and easy to do, discipline is subtle because it is more difficult to enter and more difficult to do, similarly, meditation is coarse and wisdom is subtle. Verses distinguishing the definitive words: Abandoning poverty and, obtaining coolness and enduring anger, combining excellence and holding, it is taught for knowing the ultimate meaning. Because it abandons poverty, it is generosity. Because it obtains coolness, it is discipline, and one who possesses it

It is because there is no complete oppression of the afflictions of the object's characteristics. What is called patience with anger is patience, because it is through this that anger is endured. Because it combines with the supreme, it is diligence, because it combines with virtuous Dharma. Because it is held in the mind, it is meditation. Because it knows the ultimate meaning, it is wisdom. Verses distinguishing meditation: All meditation is based on things, as well as attention, thought, methods, and mastery. The meditation on the pāramitās is of five kinds, from relying on things to relying on mastery itself. Among them, relying on things is also of four kinds: relying on cause is how one cultivates and becomes familiar with the pāramitās through the power of lineage. Relying on maturation is how one relies on the power of a fully endowed body. Relying on aspiration is how one relies on the power of previous aspirations. Relying on the power of individual discernment is how one cultivates and becomes familiar with the pāramitās through the power of wisdom. The meditation on the pāramitās relying on attention is also of four kinds: attention of faith is faith in all the sutras associated with the pāramitās. Attention of savoring is how one savors those who have attained the pāramitās by viewing them as qualities. Attention of rejoicing is rejoicing in the generosity and so forth of all sentient beings in all realms of the world. Attention of delight is delighting in the future distinctions of the pāramitās of oneself and all sentient beings. The meditation on the pāramitās relying on thought is of six kinds: thought of insatiability, thought of vastness, thought of joy, thought of benefit, thought of non-attachment, and thought of virtue. Among them, the thought of insatiability in the generosity of a Bodhisattva is: even for a single sentient being, even for a single moment, a Bodhisattva fills a world system as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River with the seven precious jewels, and a body fills the Ganges River.

One gives as many grains of sand as there are. Likewise, in as many eons as there are grains of sand in the Ganges River, one gives in each instant. Just as one does for one sentient being, so too, for all the realms of sentient beings that need to be led to unsurpassed, perfect enlightenment, one gives in this way, yet the bodhisattva never tires of the thought of giving. Such a thought is the bodhisattva's thought of never being satisfied with giving. The lineage of the bodhisattva's giving is never interrupted, not even for an instant, and it never ceases until one sits at the Bodhi tree. Such a thought is the bodhisattva's thought of great generosity. The bodhisattva becomes very happy to take hold of those sentient beings in this way through giving, but those sentient beings who are taken hold of by that giving are not like that. Such a thought is the bodhisattva's thought of delight in giving. The bodhisattva truly sees that those sentient beings who are benefited by giving in this way are of great benefit to oneself, but not for oneself, because they closely show the unsurpassed, perfect enlightenment. Such a thought is the bodhisattva's thought of benefit in giving. The bodhisattva, from those sentient beings, having manifestly accumulated great merit arising from giving in this way, does not seek reward or fruition. Such a thought is the bodhisattva's thought of non-attachment in meditating on the perfection of giving. The bodhisattva completely gives that fruition of such a vast mass of giving only to sentient beings, and not for oneself. Having made it common with all sentient beings, one also completely dedicates it to unsurpassed, perfect enlightenment. Such a thought is the bodhisattva's thought of virtue in meditating on the perfection of giving.
