Even if one constantly makes vast offerings to sentient beings who suffer, even with things that are obtained with great effort and are exhausted, and are therefore meaningless, what need is there to mention the Dharma, which is not obtained with great effort, and which, even if given away extensively, is not exhausted, but rather increases? There are two verses on the meaninglessness and meaningfulness of the Dharma itself: Because the Blessed One did not teach the Dharma (directly) in order for each individual to awaken themselves. With compassion as their essence, like great serpents, with Dharma like breaths of logical explanation, they lead beings from their own Dharma nature and place them at the gate of peace, in a place that is pure, vast, common, and inexhaustible. Among these, those like great serpents are the Buddhas. Their gate of peace is the Dharmakaya, which is pure and vast because it is completely purified of afflictions and cognitive obscurations along with their habitual tendencies, and it is common to all Buddhas, and because it is eternal, it is also inexhaustible. Therefore, the meditation practiced by yogis is not meaningless. Therefore, the teachings of the Sugatas are also not meaningless. If one could understand the meaning merely by hearing, then meditation would become meaningless. If one could enter meditation without having heard, then the teachings would become meaningless. Therefore, the meditation of yogis does not become meaningless, because through it, one can realize the Dharma that each individual needs to awaken to themselves. The teachings also do not become meaningless, because through logical explanations, beings can be led from their own Dharma nature. How meditation and explanation do not become meaningless is explained by half a verse, the remaining part is just understanding the meaning. The verses explaining the differences of the teacher: The teacher of the supreme Bodhisattva, through scripture, realization, and power, can arise from the earth and all forms, and even from the sky. Among these, power refers to the ability to enter the great earth. All forms refer to the ability to arise from things such as trees and musical instruments. The remaining part is just understanding the meaning. Regarding the perfect teacher, there are two verses: vast, dispelling doubt, worthy of being received.

You two are the teachers. This is said to be the perfect teacher of the Bodhisattva. This verse comes from the Sutra of Brahma's Questions, which speaks of the four dharmas: upholding the true Dharma, cultivating one's own wisdom, performing the deeds of the holy ones, and possessing the ability to correctly explain defilements and purification. Bodhisattvas, great beings, can skillfully distinguish the supreme great giving. This explains the meaning of those four: First, because of great learning, the teacher becomes vast. Second, because of great wisdom, doubts are eliminated, and also to eliminate the doubts of others. Third, because one is without fault, one is worthy of reliance. Fourth, with the two truths, one can show the nature of defilement and the suchness of the nature of purification. The teacher of the supreme Bodhisattva is gentle, free from greed, not weary, clear, diverse, reasonable, easy to understand, without confusion, and all-pervading. In this second verse, gentleness means not responding to the arguments of others with harsh words. Freedom from greed means not becoming arrogant because of praise or accomplishment. Not weary means not tired. Clear means explaining in detail, the teacher has no reservations. Diverse means not repeating. Reasonable means not contradicting valid measure. Easy to understand means that words and letters are clear. Without confusion means not seeking extra benefits from faith offerings. All-pervading means being able to understand all three vehicles. Verses of perfect words: The prince's words are not inferior, pleasing, well-spoken, and famous, appropriate, without confusion, and moderate, thus vast and profound. Not inferior means like a city, able to pervade the retinue. Pleasing means pleasing to the ear. Well-spoken means clear and distinct, because one can correctly explain the words. Famous means able to make people understand, because one can proclaim fame. Appropriate means worthy of listening, because it is in accordance with those to be tamed. Without confusion
