And the one who grasps. Because of illusion, it is said to be two. Although in reality there is no duality in that, one focuses closely on the two. The one who grasps the form of a skeleton, because of illusion, it is said to be two. Although in reality there is no duality in that, one focuses closely on the two. From the illusion of grasping the form of an illusory elephant, it is said that there are two: the grasped and the grasper. Although in reality there are no two in that, one still distinguishes and focuses on the two. Grasping at the image of a skeleton in the mind is also said to be two due to illusion, just like before. What is the characteristic of illusion? It is thus existent and thus non-existent. Because there is no difference between existence and non-existence, existence, non-existence, and illusion are similar. The characteristic of illusion, the nature of the dissimilar side, whatever nature, whatever things are, those are like existence, non-existence, and illusion. Why? Because it exists as the nature of unreal imputation, therefore it exists. Because it is thus non-existent in the nature of grasper and grasped, therefore it is non-existent. Because those existence and non-existence are without difference, it is neither existent nor non-existent. The characteristic of illusion is also similar to that, therefore it is like illusion. What is the antidote? It is thus non-existent and thus existent. Because it is thus non-existent, it has no characteristic, and it is also shown to be similar to illusion. The antidotal dharma, such as mindfulness and close placement, whatever the Buddhas have taught, those are also shown to be without characteristics and like illusion. Why? Because it is thus non-existent as grasped by children, and because it is thus existent as spoken, and because it is thus non-existent as the Bhagavan's entering the womb and being born, and renouncing and fully awakening, and all that is taught. Thus, it is without characteristics. Although it is not existent, it appears as if it exists, therefore it is like illusion. For the sake of example, a verse is spoken: The king of illusion is not illusory, like being defeated by another king. Those who see the Dharma, those princes are without pride. Whatever antidotal dharmas are, those are the illusion of

Like a king, it is for the sake of abandoning all defilements, because it has power over complete purification. What are all the defilements? Those are also like a king in the sense of metaphor, because they have power to accomplish all defilements. Therefore, those antidotes that defeat all defilements should be regarded as a king overthrowing a king. By understanding this, Bodhisattvas will not become arrogant towards either side. The Buddhas, the supreme Buddhas, have declared that those conditioned phenomena are like illusions, dreams, mirages, images, and optical illusions, as well as echoes in valleys, and like reflections of the moon in water, they should be known as being like emanations. Six and six and two, and two sets of six and three, are each considered to be. Where the Bhagavan said, from "all dharmas are like illusions" to "like emanations," the dharmas that are like illusions are the six internal sense bases, because they appear as such even though there is no self or life, etc. The dharmas that are like dreams are the six external sense bases, because they are not things that can be actually used. The dharmas that are like mirages are the two, mind and mental factors, because they cause confusion. Furthermore, the dharmas that are like images refer only to the six internal sense bases, because they are images of past actions. The dharmas that are like optical illusions, because they are like shadows of the internal sense bases, are only the six external sense bases, because they arise from their power. To consider two sets of six is to consider two sets of six. The dharmas that are like echoes in valleys are the dharmas that have been spoken. The images that are like reflections of the moon in water are the dharmas that rely on samadhi, because samadhi itself is like water, being the embodiment of faith. The dharmas that are like emanations refer to consciously taking rebirth in samsara, because they act without any defilements in all actions. A verse for seeking all that is to be known: Non-real thought, non-real. Non-real non-non-thought. Thought non-non-thought non. Is said to be all that is to be known. Non-real thought refers to the supramundane.
