So, in what way do beings become fully ripened? The following are verses that begin from that aspect: It is impossible for a Bodhisattva's body and possessions not to be given to others. Others are ripened by means of two kinds of beneficial assistance. The merit of equal giving will never be satisfied. Beings are fully ripened by means of three kinds of giving: giving one's own body and all possessions, giving without discrimination, and giving without satisfaction. How does one become fully ripened? By benefiting this life and future lives, because one completely fulfills desires without poverty, and by gathering and placing them in virtue. With what kind of discipline do beings become fully ripened? The following are verses that begin from that aspect: Doctrine, nature, especially non-harming, self-joy, mindfulness, placing others in this, benefiting in two ways, ripening, and transmitting qualities consistent with cause, ripening others. There are five kinds of discipline: the discipline of doctrine, the discipline of nature, the discipline that is complete because it is especially non-harming, and non-harming for the complete path of the ten virtues is especially non-harming, as it is said in the second ground. The discipline of realization because one enjoys it oneself, and the discipline of constant non-confusion because of mindfulness. How does one become fully ripened? By establishing in discipline, one benefits in two ways, this life and the next. Benefiting others in future lives is done by transmitting the qualities of ripening and consistency with cause, because its ripening and consistency with cause are mutually consistent, so it will not be interrupted. So, with what kind of patience do beings become fully ripened? The following are verses that begin from that aspect: To those who harm others, benefit them, be wise, and endure even strong harm. Through skillful wisdom, endure those harms, and cause the harmer to truly do good. Because one has the wisdom to benefit those who harm oneself, one can ripen them with patience that does not mind even strong harm.

Therefore, the very thought of benefiting others should be understood as acting in accordance with the perfection of patience. How does it ripen? Because one does not resent those who harm, one benefits them in this life; and because of skillful means, not resenting those who harm, one first subdues those who harm and then causes them to take up virtue properly, one benefits them in the next life. What kind of diligence makes sentient beings ripen? From this, a verse is composed: Relying on the supreme diligence of the prince, When ripening the multitude of sentient beings, Even for the sake of a single virtuous thought of another, One will not tire for hundreds of millions of eons. With great diligence, one does not tire for a long time; not tiring for a long time means that even for the sake of a single virtuous thought of another, one does not tire for hundreds of millions of eons, and therefore one ripens limitless sentient beings. Therefore, how does one ripen them? By properly and truly engaging sentient beings in virtue, one benefits this life and the next, as it is said. What kind of concentration makes sentient beings ripen? From this, a verse is composed: Having obtained the supreme power of mind, Having surely conquered all desires for others' offerings, Others develop faith in the supreme teaching, And those virtues truly increase. Having obtained the supreme power of concentration, and having surely conquered all desires for others' offerings without attachment, one ripens sentient beings. One causes others to develop faith in the Buddha's teaching, and after developing faith, one ripens them by increasing virtuous Dharma. What kind of wisdom makes them ripen? From this, a verse is composed: Thoroughly understanding the meaning of that, One completely dispels the doubts of sentient beings, Therefore, they respect the Victor's teaching, And the virtues of oneself and others increase. The Bodhisattva ripens sentient beings with the wisdom that thoroughly understands the meaning of that very meaning and the meaning of the intention. How does one ripen them? Senti
