Those sentient beings of non-regressing lineage, who only desire samsara, who are those who do not desire nirvana? Those who are certain to fall into it, these Dharma factions themselves, some of them hate the Mahayana Dharma. Due to what reason? The Blessed One said, "I am not their teacher, nor are they my Shravakas. Shariputra, they are darker than darkness, accompanied by great darkness." Therefore, those who wish to be free from existence have two types: those who enter the path of non-means, and those who enter the path of means. Those who enter the path of non-means also have three types: those who have become alienated from Buddhism, such as the Charakas, the wanderers, the naked ascetics, and many other types of heretics; and those who behave similarly, these Dharma factions themselves, although they have faith, hold views that are difficult to grasp. What are those? For example, not believing in the ultimate truth, but clinging to the self of a person. Regarding this, the Blessed One said, "Those who do not believe in emptiness are no different from heretics." And those who, with pride, cling to emptiness. Regarding those who cling to emptiness to the point that they also cling to the gate of liberation as emptiness, the Blessed One said, "Light-increaser, clinging to the self of a person is as great as Mount Sumeru, but clinging to emptiness with pride is not so." Those who enter the path of means also have two types: those who are in accordance with the Shravaka vehicle and enter the path of true determination, and those who are in accordance with the Pratyekabuddha vehicle. Those who do not desire either of these are: those sentient beings who abide in the Mahayana and have the sharpest faculties. They do not desire samsara like those who are intensely greedy, nor do they enter the path of non-means like heretics and others, nor do they realize the possession of means like Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas. However, they enter the path of attaining the equality of samsara and nirvana. These people have the intention of not dwelling in nirvana, have the conduct of relying on undefiled samsara, and their compassion and superior intention are firmly established, rooted

is also pure. For those sentient beings who crave existence and the Dharma into which they are certain to fall, these two are called the aggregates of sentient beings who are attached to what is inverted. Those who wish to be separated from existence but enter the wrong path are called the aggregates of uncertain sentient beings. Those who wish to be separated from existence and enter the right path, and who do not crave either, and who enter the path of attaining equality, are called the aggregates of sentient beings who are certain of what is true. Therefore, apart from those sentient beings who are truly abiding in the Great Vehicle and who are free from obscurations, there are these four kinds of sentient beings: those who crave, the non-Buddhists, the Hearers, and the Solitary Buddhas. For them, the Tathāgatagarbha is not realized, and the obscuration that does not manifest is truly present. What are these four? They are: the obscuration of those who crave, for whom the antidote is the Bodhisattvas' cultivation of faith in the Dharma of the Great Vehicle and hatred of the Dharma of the Great Vehicle; the obscuration of other non-Buddhists who cling to phenomena as self, for whom the antidote is the Bodhisattvas' cultivation of the Perfection of Wisdom; the obscuration of the Hearer Vehicle, who know well that saṃsāra is suffering and fear suffering, for whom the antidote is the Bodhisattvas' cultivation of samādhi such as the Treasury of Space; and the obscuration of the Solitary Buddha Vehicle, who turn their backs on the affairs of sentient beings and do not care about the affairs of sentient beings, for whom the antidote is the Bodhisattvas' cultivation of great compassion. By cultivating these four Dharmas, such as faith, the Bodhisattvas will attain the unsurpassed meaning, the Dharmakāya, complete purity, and ultimate perfection. The obscurations of these four kinds of sentient beings are these four. Possessing these four causes for accomplishing purity, one will become a son of the Dharma King in the Tathāgata lineage. How does one become so? Faith in the Supreme Vehicle is the seed, wisdom is the mother born of the Dharma of the Buddha, and the thought
