Its cause is this hearing. The meaning of these verses should be understood as being explained in nine verses: the place and its transformation, its qualities and the accomplishment of its purpose, the realm of the knower, the Victorious One. In these four aspects as described, the wise, with virtue and self-nature, believing in possessing qualities, will quickly become fortunate to attain the state of the Thus-Gone One. This inconceivable realm can be attained by those who exist and resemble me, and because of believing in possessing such qualities and attainment, qualities such as desire, diligence, mindfulness, meditation, and wisdom, the mind of enlightenment will always abide near them. Because it always abides near them, the son of the Victorious One will not turn back. The perfection of merit and the complete purity of nature will be achieved. The five perfections of merit, in which there is no threefold conceptualization, are perfected and completely purified because their opposing factors are abandoned. The merit arising from generosity is generosity itself, and the discipline arising from morality is morality itself. Patience and meditation both arise from cultivation, and diligence pervades all. Whatever conceptualization of the three spheres exists is considered an obscuration of knowledge. Whatever conceptualization exists, such as miserliness, is considered an obscuration of affliction. These, other than wisdom, have no other cause for abandonment, therefore wisdom is supreme, and these four are supreme because of hearing. Thus, relying on the scriptures and reasoning, and because of being purely self-existent, this is spoken to follow those who have faith, virtue, perfect qualities, and wisdom. Starting from what has been said, the verses are: Just as one with eyes sees by relying on lamps, jewels, the sun, and the moon, so this great meaning, the light of Dharma, is well explained by relying on the Sage. Starting from what has been said, the verses are: Whatever is meaningful, connected to the Dharma, and speaks of abandoning afflictions from all three realms, whatever teaches the benefits of peace, that is the speech of a sage, and the opposite is not. Starting from what has been said, the verses are: Whatever is spoken by one whose mind is controlled solely by the teachings of the Victorious One, without distraction.

In accordance with the path to liberation, I take the sage's teachings upon my head. Composed in verses, starting with the means of self-protection: Why is there no one in this world more knowledgeable than the king? Only the supreme all-knowing one knows everything as it is, not others. Therefore, do not disturb the sutras established by the sage himself, For destroying the way of the capable will harm the sacred Dharma. Those who are deluded by afflictions slander the noble ones, And whatever contempt they show for the Dharma spoken by them is due to attachment. Therefore, do not associate with those who are stained with the dirt of attachment. A clean cloth is not transformed by dyes, nor is it covered with oil. Composed in verses, starting with the causes of decline: Due to inferior intellect, due to being devoid of good intentions, due to displaying the pride of wrong views, Due to being obscured by the decline of the sacred Dharma, for the sake of clinging to the true meaning, Due to greed for gain, due to being dominated by views, due to relying on teaching the Dharma, Due to prolonging attachment to the Dharma, due to inferior aspiration, they abandon the Dharma of the Arhats. Composed in verses, starting with the fruits of decline: Just as the profound Dharmas are, so too should the wise not be overly afraid of fire, Terrible poisonous snakes, executioners, and hailstones. Fire, snakes, enemies, and the fire of vajra may take life, But they will not cause one to go to the terrifying state of Avici. Whoever repeatedly relies on evil friends, harbors ill will towards the Buddha, And kills the victorious Arhats, does what should not be done, and divides the Sangha, They should truly contemplate the nature of Dharma and quickly be liberated from it, But how can there be liberation for those whose minds hate the Dharma? The sacred and pure realm of enlightenment, the immaculate Bodhi, qualities and activities, From the proper explanation of the seven kinds of meaning, whatever merit I have gained, May this being see the infinite light, the many sages, and Amitayus, And having seen them, may they generate the immaculate eye of Dharma and attain supreme enlightenment. The meaning condensed by these ten verses should also be understood by three verses: From what cause, for what reason, How is it spoken, what is said, And the permission of the same kind, that is the verse.
