Thus, the sons of the Victorious Ones generate excellent bodhicitta. Just as on a pure beryl ground, the image of the king of gods' body appears, so on the pure ground of beings' minds, the image of the Sage King's body arises. The appearance and disappearance of images in beings is without confusion, but enters by the power of the greatly entering confused mind. Just as appearances are seen in the pure realms, so they do not see existence and destruction. Just as the gods in the heavens, by the power of their past purity, without effort, abiding, or mental images, and without conceptual thought, the sounds of impermanence, suffering, selflessness, and peace, repeatedly urge all the unmindful gods, like a drum of dharma. Likewise, the pervasive lord, though free from effort and so forth, with the Buddha's speech pervades all beings, teaching the Dharma to those who are fortunate. Just as for the gods in the heavens, the sound of the drum arises from their own actions, so in the world, the Sage's Dharma, is spoken from their own actions. Just as the sound that separates body and mind from effort, accomplishes peace, so the Dharma that is free from effort and so forth, accomplishes peace. Just as in the city of the gods, the fearless giving that arises from the cause of the drum's sound, when engaging in the battle of afflictions, the army of the asuras scatters in victory, so in the world, that which arises from the cause of meditation, formlessness, and so forth, utterly destroys the afflictions and suffering of sentient beings, proclaiming the path of unsurpassed peace. Because he is the father of all births, possessing the three qualities of benefit, happiness, and miracles, therefore, the Sage's voice surpasses the celestial instruments. In the heavens, the great sound of the drum, does not reach the ears of those who dwell on the earth. The Buddha's drum sound goes to the subterranean worlds of samsara. In the heavens, there are billions of celestial instruments, proclaiming the increase of the fire of desire. But even a single sound of those who possess compassion, enters for the sake of pacifying the fire of suffering. In the heavens, the beautiful and pleasing sound of instruments, is the cause of increasing mental agitation. The speech of the Thus-Gone One, the nature of compassion, is itself that which directs the mind to samadhi and urges thought. In short, in all the realms of the world, whatever is the cause of happiness for gods and earthly beings, that is it.

All worldly appearances are said to rely entirely on the nature of sound. Just as a deaf person cannot experience subtle sounds, and sounds cannot enter the ears of all the gods, similarly, for the most subtle Dharma, only subtle wisdom can experience it, and only a few minds without afflictions can hear it. Just as clouds in summer are the cause of abundant crops, effortlessly pouring water onto the ground, similarly, from the clouds of compassion, the rain of the Victorious Dharma descends, as the cause of beings' virtuous crops, descending without discrimination. Just as the world enters the path of virtue, and wind-born water and rain are brought down by clouds, similarly, in order to increase beings' virtue through the wind of love, the Buddha pours down the rain of Dharma from the clouds. For the world, wisdom and great compassion constantly change, unchanging and unstained, abiding in the midst of space, possessing the stainless essence of Samadhi Dharani water. The cloud of the Sage is the cause of virtuous crops. Just as cool, sweet, soft, and light water arises from that cloud, and is associated with places like earth and puddles, becoming extremely numerous flavors, similarly, the rain of the eightfold noble path, arising from the essence of the vast cloud of compassion, from the differences in the abodes of beings' continuums, becomes endowed with many kinds of flavors. Those who rejoice in the supreme vehicle, and those who are indifferent or hateful, the three kinds of beings are like the impure, peacocks, and hungry ghosts. The absence of clouds at the end of spring is like humans and birds that do not move in the sky, and the rain at the beginning of summer is like the suffering of hungry ghosts. Whether or not the compassionate clouds produce the water of Dharma, it is the same example for the world that desires Dharma and hates Dharma. When coarse drops, hail, and vajra fire are poured down, the clouds are unrelated to the tiny creatures and those who have gone into the valleys. Knowing through subtle and vast reasoning, and the clouds of compassion, are in no way related to the transformation of afflictions and the habitual tendencies of self-grasping. The cycle of birth and death has no beginning, and there beings have five paths. Just as there is no fragrance in impurity, there is no happiness in the five paths. That
