There is no function in the prowess of consciousness, and there is no established function apart from appearance, so in the ultimate sense it is in accordance with the basis of all. The basis of all is also not established as the nature of the ultimate sense, as previously shown. If so, is that contrary to showing their engagement? The answer is given by "nature meaning" and so on. In the ultimate sense, the nature of consciousness, suchness, has no constant engagement, and there is no engagement with objects even in the conventional sense, because there is no object to be grasped. If it is argued that even if there is no external self of the grasped, the grasped belonging to the inside of consciousness exists in the conventional sense, it is not so, because it is also not established as the characteristic of the grasped, because it is empty of grasping and being grasped. It is like what is said, "That is how it is, self-illuminating." If there are some objects to be grasped, then the power of grasping that becomes its dependence will also appear in that way, and if it is established in accordance, since the grasped itself does not exist, it is unreasonable to grasp relying on it. Thus, in the conventional sense, all phenomena are only mind, and as previously explained in detail, in the ultimate sense, the nature of mind is also not established. Here, in particular, the aspect of true appearance is negated. Furthermore, the aspect of false appearance will also be negated below. By "body" and so on, it is shown that in the conventional sense, prowess is in accordance with mind, and the engagement of mind is also similar to prowess. The detailed meaning of this will be shown below. By "prowess clinging to things" and so on, it is reasonable for even children to understand their engagement in a general way through the example shown, and that is why the example is also cited closely. It is not a fault of contradiction because what was previously shown to be difficult to understand is how one's own characteristics are. Here, "prowess thing" is shown by way of example, and the prowess shown earlier is by way of the meaning represented by the example. By "good and bad people" and so on, it is shown that the difference in the engagement of the Buddhas' teaching of Dharma is not the same due to the difference in those to be tamed. The meaning of the first opponent is thus.

Since the departed one possesses great compassion without partiality, it is reasonable to teach all beings the same true meaning. Just as the sun's orb shines equally upon all sentient beings. If the true suchness is taught to all, then the scriptures' exposition of mind-only or of external objects cannot be said to lack suchness, because the meaning expounded would be harmed by valid cognition, and thus would not be established as the nature of suchness. "Abiding thoroughly in the Dharma," means that oneself does not stray from the realm of Dharma, or that the Buddha abides in the great non-abiding Nirvana, which is the nature of inseparable means and wisdom. The necessity of this statement is that when benefiting sentient beings with compassion, one might become distracted from the realm of Dharma, and it is to negate such a possibility. "Like the ocean," and so forth, provides the answer. First, from the conventional perspective, the manner in which consciousness functions is explained through other means. Its meaning is that just as an image appears on the surface of a mirror without being a substance, or in the state of dreams and so on, forms and colors that are not present in objects appear either sequentially or simultaneously, so too, various consciousnesses appear in their respective objects of experience, but although they do not possess a substantially established object, they function and appear either sequentially or simultaneously. Here, consciousness refers to the alaya-consciousness and the mind-consciousness, or the nature of the six consciousnesses. "The mind thus conceives," refers to the afflicted mind grasping the alaya-consciousness as self, thereby generating pride. In the state of meditative absorption, there is no such sequential functioning. Thus, the nature of the object and the subject are described as diverse, which indicates that they are not established in ultimate truth, and this is illustrated through the analogy of a painting. "On the color, there is no drawing," this clearly explains the analogy. Just as the color paint alone does not have the ability to produce a drawing, because then other conditions would become meaningless. Similarly, the brush, the container, and the effort of the person should also be understood in the same way. If each of these could produce the result
