It is not different from the waves, and the essence of the waves and the ocean are not different or the same in all respects. Just as the waves of the ocean do not remain still, the waves also do not remain still. Similarly, the consciousness that enters from the nature of the ālaya-vijñāna is not different, and it is also not without distinction and the same in all respects. The uninterrupted ālaya-vijñāna abides in this way. Therefore, there is no contradiction in explaining the eight aggregates of consciousness. Here, the meaning of the words is that the উৎপ་ལ་ flower and its blue color, the lotus and the red color of the lotus, salt and its taste, the conch and the white color of the conch, milk and sugar, and their sweetness, the astringent fruit haritaki and so on, and their astringent taste, the sun and the rays of the sun, and so on, are not the same and without distinction in all respects, nor are they different in all respects. Furthermore, here in the ultimate truth, the entity of consciousness itself is not established, so it is completely liberated from one and different. The ocean completely transformed, and so on, summarizes the previous meaning and explains it. Mind and intention, and so on, explain that the aggregates of the eight consciousnesses are also liberated from one and different in the ultimate truth. Then it is unreasonable to explain them separately in that way. In order to eliminate such doubts, it means that in the conventional truth, the nature of the eight consciousnesses is not mixed and abides in difference, and it is carefully observed and explained for the purpose of teaching the children this meaning. In the ultimate truth, it is the nature of non-nature, the taste is the same and not different. Among them, one cannot find complete transformation, meaning that the consciousness of the ālaya completely transformed is not established in the ultimate truth. Mind is karma, and so on, explains the different ways in the conventional truth. The ālaya arises from the aspect of being the basis of habits, and so on. The afflicted mind or the mind of the six consciousnesses that have just ceased can also arise from the aspect of familiarizing habits, and so on. Furthermore, the six aggregates of consciousness are the objects of discernment, and that also

The manifestation of the five senses appears as the nature of the present state, while the mind consciousness recognizes its self or difference. How does it appear? As the verse says, "The appearance of blue and red exists in eye consciousness." This is just an approximate example, actually appearing as form, sound, etc. If someone argues, how can the entering consciousness's valiant powers be completely transformed into the Alaya consciousness, or be its kind, and be in accordance with it? This is what is called "valiant powers" and so on. The objector means that the valiant powers clearly appear as the image of the object, while the Alaya consciousness is the opposite of it, how can they be the same? The meaning of the answer is that, in reality, the images that appear as blue and red, etc., do not exist in the valiant powers of eye consciousness, etc. Its meaning is that if the images of blue, etc., exist in the subject of eye consciousness, etc., then are these consciousnesses the nature of one subject, or the nature of multiple subjects? To this, those who assert that all phenomena are real and non-dualistic believe that, as mentioned earlier, through the reasons such as the certainty of simultaneous appearance, the images of blue, etc., are established as mind-nature, and the mind is also established as unique, because it appears as diverse. Its special meaning is that if things that appear as white, red, etc., are the subject of multiple consciousnesses, then they will only experience their own nature, and will not experience each other's images, so it is unreasonable to appear as diverse. For example, if five people look at five different colors separately, since the consciousnesses that appear separately are multiple, it is unreasonable to appear as variegated or diverse, because the consciousness that appears as white to someone will only experience that image, and will not experience other images. Other appearances are similar to this. This is unreasonable, because it is unreasonable to establish it as mind in the ultimate truth through the reasons such as the certainty of simultaneous appearance. Furthermore, if things that appear as diverse, such as blue, are the unique consciousness, then why not argue that it is also the unique external thing? If it is considered external because the part appears as diverse

If it is said that it is not the nature of one, then, for that very reason, it is also not the nature of one consciousness. This point has been explained in detail before when refuting the oneness of external objects. If it is said that here, refuting the nature of one external object is done through the contradictory dharmas of being changed by color and not being changed, etc., but this is not the same as admitting that consciousness is one, because consciousness is not suitable to be changed by color. If that is said, then it should be asked: Does the nature of consciousness truly become established merely by admitting that it is consciousness? If it is said that it is not established, then, for that very reason, for the dharma that appears as various, such as blue, without distinguishing between object and consciousness, if the contradictory reason of being changed by color and not being changed is established, then when admitting that it is consciousness, one cannot say that the reason is not established, because the dharma and the reason have not changed from their previous state. It is like, if it is established by valid cognition that the color of Devadatta is blue, then merely because he is admitted to be a low caste, he will not become blue, just as the color, like blue, will not be changed by valid cognition no matter what difference in caste is admitted. If it is not like that, why not say that because the external object is admitted to be one, the contradiction of being changed by color and not being changed is not reasonable? If it is said that merely because it is admitted to be one, it does not become one, just as for the dharma that appears as blue, etc., that reason is not unestablished. Then, similarly, merely because it is admitted to be consciousness, it will not become consciousness, and for the dharma that appears in that way, that reason is established, so why would one think that they are not the same? Furthermore, because it appears as various, the statement "consciousness is the nature of one" is a contradictory reason because it pervades the dharma that is the opposite of what is to be established, or, if one establishes the reason as "because it truly appears as various," then the reason is unestablished, and if one establishes it as "because it conventionally appears as various, therefore the consciousness that appears as such is truly one," then it should be generally pointed out that the pervasion is unestablished. Like that, two kinds of various.
