Because it is extremely subtle, it is not perceived. As it is said: 'The consciousness of grasping is very deep and subtle. All seeds flow like a river. If one clings to it as self, it is not permissible. I have not shown it to children.' It is like this. Thus, those who have attained such yoga, like this, we have blocked the consciousness of entering into objects, and the meaning of entering into equanimity and so on is completely understood. 'Great wisdom' and so on show the difference of the individuals who can realize it. Abiding on the ground is the true ground, which is abiding on the Extremely Joyful Ground and above. Thus it is also said: 'Ordinary beings are inverted, and seeing the truth ceases.' It is also said: 'From the highest worldly dharma downwards, it is said to be inverted in accordance with it.' Therefore, here, the nature of the Tathagatagarbha, the Alaya-consciousness, is the Tathagata who realizes it as it is in all aspects. As it is said: 'For example, when milk is churned, there is butter in it but it does not appear. It can be seen by churning. Thus, the Alaya-consciousness, which is associated with the seven consciousnesses, can be seen by the Buddhas through churning and intensive practice.' Therefore. Understanding is through the wisdom of hearing and thinking. 'The power of Samadhi and wisdom' refers to the wisdom arising from the practice of combining Shamatha and Vipassana. Here, the Bodhisattvas of ordinary beings realize it in the form of general characteristics through the wisdom of hearing and thinking. The meaning of such realization is that by relying on the practice of going from higher to higher and accumulating special accumulations, one can realize its own characteristics. This is a clear explanation of the meaning of cowardice, that is, 'Great wisdom otherwise' and so on. The detailed analysis of words is undoubtedly the wisdom arising from hearing and thinking. Accumulating infinite merit for the Buddhas, the root of virtue is to obtain gain, respect, and practice offerings, making them happy, as it is said: 'Definitely departing in countless kalpas, increasing faith,'

Just as water fills the ocean, so too can virtuous dharmas completely fulfill everything. As it is said. One's own mind appearance, free from the elaboration of conceptual thoughts such as external objects, combined with what was previously said about being skilled in wisdom and insight, arises from cultivating wisdom related to calm abiding. Living in dense forests, caves, and under trees means abandoning bustle and complete physical solitude, which is a branch of calm abiding. As it is said in the Sutra of the Essence of the Earth, "Those who cultivate samadhi, if they have not achieved many samadhis, should not sleep in the upper or lower part of the night, but should diligently study and cultivate, completely abandoning bustle, and should be content with little desire." And so on. Furthermore, the sutra says, "Cultivating samadhi will cut off doubts, and if this principle is not realized, others cannot do it." Therefore, the sutra says that true wisdom also completely depends on samadhi. Another explanation is that this merely represents the Hearers and Solitary Buddhas being free from conceptual thoughts and the mind being in a state of complete solitude. However, Bodhisattvas who have entered the true ground, having already obtained the object of calm abiding, do not particularly emphasize physical solitude. As it is said in the sutra, "Constantly dwelling in towns, villages, and cities, except for maturing sentient beings and striving for Bodhi, they do not generate the desire for Arhats and Solitary Buddhas. This is the solitude spoken of by the Sugata's sons. If someone in a valley of five hundred yojanas, filled with illusions, and dwells for countless years, but does not understand this solitude, that Bodhisattva will generate arrogance and become a dwelling place for demons." And so on. The term "under a tree" refers to the vicinity of a tree, etc. Superior, intermediate, and inferior yogis refer to the object of insight with conceptual images, and the object of calm abiding with conceptual images. Merely obtaining these two objects is the state below the supreme worldly dharma. Combining these and obtaining the ultimate object of things is the state from the path of seeing to the eighth bhumi, and from the eighth bhumi to...
