That (referring to the mind) as the characteristic of the object of grasping, and the mind as the characteristic of the grasper, are both free from imputation. Because the two appear differently, each becomes the object of self-awareness. In the ultimate truth, having abandoned the characteristic of conditioned phenomena, the meaning of the Madhyamaka of other-powered mere-consciousness, like an illusion, is cultivated. Bodhisattvas who cultivate in this way will soon transcend the ground of practice based on accumulation and aspiration, and attain the realization of the equality of samsara and nirvana. As it is said: The Bodhisattva who abides on the first ground, towards the Dharma and sentient beings, and his activity is Buddhahood itself, because of attaining equanimity of mind in the supreme, his Joyful One is particularly excellent. Furthermore, it is especially explained on the eighth ground, as it is said: The field is completely purified, and there is no abiding in nirvana. Samsara and nirvana are realized as being of one taste. The spontaneously accomplished yoga is also the yoga of maturing sentient beings and cultivating one's own Buddha-dharma, that is, the eighth ground and above. The so-called outward appearance without characteristics means that there is no grasping at characteristics in that way. The so-called gradual stages of the grounds means the gradual progression through the first ground, etc., and that is all that needs to be known. Here, not corresponding to the characteristics of grasper and grasped, as stated in the sutras, will be explained below. The samadhi like an illusion is also especially on the eighth ground. Starting from "the appearance of my mind," etc., is the gradual attainment from then on up to the ground of Buddhahood. Birth and activity refer to taking a mind-made body, or intentionally being born in samsara for the benefit of sentient beings, and also doing the activity of maturing sentient beings there. The form of samadhi like a vajra is especially the stage of the tenth ground, because it is indestructible by conceptual thoughts, etc., and they themselves can destroy conceptual thoughts, etc., therefore it is in accordance with the nature of a vajra. That is, following the Dharmakaya, realizing Suchness, and emanating countless emanations that have become its nature, possessing the ten powers, six superknowledges, ten powers, and loving-kindness, that is, unconditioned great compassion, and great compassion.

That is, it is associated with application. Thus, powers and so on, as stated in the Sutra Requested by the King of Miraculous Manifestations: "Venerable One, do Bodhisattvas also possess the ten powers of a Bodhisattva, the four fearlessnesses of a Bodhisattva, and the eighteen unshared qualities of a Bodhisattva?" The Venerable One replied, "King of Miraculous Manifestations, those Bodhisattvas who have completed the perfect application, obtained irreversible patience, abide on the eighth ground and ascend to the ninth ground, and are upheld by the Perfection of Wisdom and skillful means, possess them." Thus, the powers and fearlessnesses of a Bodhisattva are extensively taught. Furthermore, the Sacred Dharma Collection Sutra also states that Bodhisattvas on the eighth ground and above possess the seeds of qualities such as the ten powers of a Tathagata. However, there are differences in their completeness and incompleteness, purity and impurity. The phrase "going near to the places of non-Buddhists in all Buddha-fields" means approaching them with the intention of subduing them through abilities, wisdom, and so on. Through the power of past actions and aspirations, they can also be especially tamed. The phrase "gradually transferring abodes" means that the various consciousnesses gradually abide as previously explained. The phrase "great wisdom" and so on advises the cultivation of the meaning of possessing such qualities. The phrase "perfectly following the body of the Tathagata" means realizing the meaning of suchness through the wisdom of hearing and contemplation. The phrase "mind and cause" is summarized by saying that the mind itself is the cause, which is the alaya consciousness as previously explained. "What should be followed should be cultivated." Furthermore, the appearance of the three realms arises from habitual tendencies. The phrase "like a jewel of various colors" means that just as pure crystal appears in various colors due to the conditions of being transformed by blue and other colors, similarly, the completely pure wisdom of the Tathagata also appears in various forms according to the different intentions of those to be tamed.
