It is unreasonable to say that. It is said that the aspect of maturation reverts when mirror-like wisdom is attained. If that is the case, then the enjoyment body, having become the nature of wisdom, is called the Buddha of Maturation, and if it contradicts what is stated below, there is no fault. Because it arises through the habitual imprints of past virtuous deeds, it is merely labeled as maturation. It is not actual maturation, because it is not accomplished by contaminated actions. The valid cognition that establishes this will also be explained below. The nature of the afflicted mind is obscured and unspecified, because when it possesses subtle self-grasping, it hinders the arising of the wisdom of suchness. Its characteristic is to grasp at the ālaya as "I," as it is said: "The mind of 'I' is indeed the mind." And, "The mind is 'I' and 'mine,' because self-grasping intensely engages." Therefore, its object of focus is the ālaya-vijñāna. Moreover, the seed aspect is encompassed by virtue and non-virtue, so it cannot focus on that. However, it focuses on the aspect of maturation. Furthermore, it is not that it focuses in the manner of establishing it as such, but it is unreasonable to say that it focuses in the manner of being the basis of confusion, because the ālaya is also an unspecified seed, as stated earlier, "All seeds are in the ālaya." and so on. Therefore, the seed is not encompassed by virtue and non-virtue. Even so, there is not the slightest contradiction in it being an object of focus in the manner of being the basis of confusion. The time of its reversion is threefold: "There is none on the path beyond the world, nor in the absorption of cessation, it reverts at the time of the Arhat." Thus it is said. Among these, in the path of seeing, etc., which is beyond the world, and in the absorption of cessation, there is none, it is self-liberation. For a while, it is the reversion of manifest activity, but it is not the liberation of the individual's continuum through the abandonment of seeds and permanent reversion. Reversion in the continuum of an Arhat is the permanent reversion of abandoning together with the seeds, as stated in the treatises on Dharma Abhidharma.

However, this will also be shown below to be unreasonable. Therefore, the complete cessation together with the seeds is the state of the eighth Bodhisattva level or above, or the state of Buddhahood itself. The proof of this is that other than the words of reliable authority, no valid cognition entering by the power of things has been seen. Thus, if explained extensively, the eight consciousnesses that are spoken of are based on whether they engage clearly or coarsely. If classified in brief, there are two types: the consciousness of appearance and the consciousness that distinguishes individual objects. Having shown the way of distinguishing in this way, showing the way of their individual nature and engagement, etc., is what is said in the "Mahamati Sutra" and so on. Just as an image appears in a mirror, but is not established as an external substance, so too form, sound, and so on are not established as external substances, but are the appearance of mind itself. Grasping at such is the five sense consciousnesses, which are shown as one called the consciousness of appearance. Individually distinguishing objects is the consciousness of mind that seeks and ascertains, that is, the mind that ascertains "this thing is like this and not otherwise," or the mind that has the aspect of doubt. These two also do not differ in the general characteristic of the nature of cognition, and they are mutually the cause of each other. The meaning of that is that the beginning of the continuum of the five sense consciousnesses is produced by the consciousness of mind as its immediately preceding condition. And also, when the eye consciousness and so on appear as the aspect of an object, it acts as its immediately preceding condition, and following that, the consciousness of mind that seeks "is this thing like this or otherwise" arises. Furthermore, the causal condition of the previous consciousness is the habitual tendencies such as similarity of type that exist in the alaya consciousness, which are beyond the scope of thought of the Hearers and so on, and are inconceivable. It arises from the cause of being fully ripened and awakened, that is, it is produced in the manner of acting as the causal condition. The dominant condition is as previously shown. It is not accepted that the objective condition is different from the mind, and this meaning is also as previously shown. All
