This is the realization that the time has come to tame all the retinues. The rest is just for understanding. To elaborate on the words of the question, first is to ask in the manner of reasoning, such as "How?" It is said that external objects do not exist even in conventional truth, and appearances are the nature of mind. But if mind does not exist in ultimate truth, then before the Tathagata manifested enlightenment in the world, or even after becoming a Buddha, without seeing the nature of Dharma as it is, but relying on some reasons to measure and judge knowable things, this is called reasoning, which is conventional direct perception and inference. And its pure state is to establish the characteristics of direct perception, etc., based on the words of truth that realize Suchness, which is the treatise of the Buddhas. For example, the Blessed One said to the monks, "The consciousness that knows form has two aspects, namely the eye and the existence that arises from it," etc., which is a classification of direct perception. Furthermore, "Having eye consciousness, knowing blue, but not thinking it is blue," etc., explains that its nature is free from conceptualization and is unerring. Based on this, direct perception is established, as well as its object, such as form, etc., whose nature is the aggregates and sources of many aggregates such as atoms. In addition, "From smoke, one knows fire; from water birds, one knows water," etc., explains the inference that is known from the sign of the result, and its object, such as fire, etc., is the nature of being devoid of a single entity of aggregated atoms. Again, monks, "Whatever is of the nature of arising is of the nature of ceasing," relying on this sign to realize the momentary nature of formations, this is the inference arising from the sign of nature, and it explains what is to be measured by it. Similarly, monks, "One person should not measure another person, for measuring a person by a person will lead to degeneration. If one must measure, it should be measured by me or someone like me," explaining that the invisible non-existence is not a negation.

Therefore, since the cause and pervasive, etc., are prevented, the result and the pervaded, etc., are also prevented. The appearance of non-apprehension is said to be the understanding of the prevention itself. Therefore, if the dharma of mere appearance exists as a true entity, then it is also pervaded by the true one and many. When such a pervader is reversed, it is understood that the pervaded entity does not exist. By becoming accustomed to this, the self-cognizant wisdom of the noble ones will arise, with ultimate truth as its object. Furthermore, relying on the previous valid cognitions, such as, "Just as a moment has an end, the beginning and middle should also be examined," and "When form is broken down into atoms, the parts of the atom do not exist," etc., through the stages of understanding, a valid cognition that measures suchness will arise. Therefore, the way of reasoning of the Buddhists is pure because it relies on the words of the Buddha who sees suchness, and through it becomes a part of understanding suchness. The way of reasoning of the non-Buddhists is the opposite of this, and should be understood as wrong. Some of them consider the wisdom of recognition to be direct perception, and believe that this direct perception establishes the permanence of the previous person named Devadatta as this person, or as a general entity. Furthermore, the Vaisheshikas believe that the self pervades all places, because the qualities of happiness and suffering of the self can be apprehended in all objects. They consider this unestablished seeming reason as a true reason, and from this they establish the self. These ways of establishing valid cognitions and objects of valid cognition in a reversed manner do not become a part of understanding suchness, so they are called wrong conceptualizations. If everything is without inherent existence, then all of these are unreasonable. Asking in the manner of a debate like this can also eliminate the wrong understanding of those to be tamed. Alternatively, "wrong" refers to the knowledge of most ordinary people that is contrary to the meaning of suchness. The reason for all the questions that will be explained below is mostly this, that in conventional truth it is mind, and in ultimate truth it is also mind, but if it is without inherent existence, then differences like this and that are unreasonable, and should be combined in this way.
