It is said that "it is absolutely not sentient beings." This is unreasonable. Because there are two types of beings to be tamed in the future: the dull-witted who follow faith, and the sharp-witted who follow the Dharma. For the former, merely the words spoken in this way will make them particularly convinced. For the sharp-witted who possess realization, these words will also give rise to doubt, thinking that this person is probably telling the truth, thereby understanding and entering the Sutra Pitaka. Furthermore, those to be tamed in the future who have attained clairvoyance can also ask questions to the sentient beings, so there is an opportunity to make mistakes. As it is said: The teacher and the retinue of sentient beings, as well as the place and time, are also clearly indicated, in order to make the speaker himself a reliable person for the branch of those who enter with faith, so in the world, it is marked by place and time, etc., and the speaker who speaks with sentient beings is thoroughly regarded as a reliable person. So it is said. The second necessity is that words such as "evam maya (ཨེ་ཝཾ་མཱ་ཡ་,,,Thus by me)" are summarized in the language of the gods, who are good at expressing themselves, in order to subdue the gods. In addition, some non-Buddhists believe that our teacher, the Great自在天, etc., are proficient in the treatises on grammar, so they use well-expressed Sanskrit words to summarize, but the Shramana Gautama is not like that, thus generating wrong views, in order to eliminate this wrong view. The third necessity is recorded in the miscellaneous Vinaya texts of the Vinaya Pitaka that after the Tathagata passed away, when the Venerable Ananda was compiling the holy Dharma, he sat on the lion throne, adorned with marks and signs, like the Tathagata, causing the other retinues to be doubtful, thinking: Although Shakyamuni Buddha had previously passed away, has he come again for the benefit of sentient beings because of great compassion? Or has another Tathagata come here from another world? Or is it not so, doubts arise. Or has the Venerable Ananda himself become different from before, and has he become a Buddha and replaced the teacher? And so on, doubts arise.

Therefore, in order to cut off these, it is said, "Thus I have heard." If the Tathagata is reappearing or is another, then this sentence is not appropriate. Even if Ananda himself becomes a Buddha, because he has already directly realized and realized the meaning of the Dharma, it is not just hearing. Therefore, it is said that it is the former Ananda himself. After showing the meaning of necessity in this way, the meaning of the summary should be understood in five ways: the compiler with the difference of merits, etc., the time, teacher, and place of the Dharma, and the perfect retinue. Among them, the first is shown by "Thus I have heard." The second, etc., are also shown in order by "At one time," etc., "Bhagavan," etc., "Lanka City," etc., and "Bhikshu Sangha," etc. There are also other explanations that the first word shows the beginning, and "At one time," etc., show the basis. Even so, there is no contradiction. The meaning of the word is that "Thus heard" means that it is summarized and shown from below. This is just the word of hearing, summarizing what was heard from the Bhagavan, without any increase or decrease. This meaning is also shown by the Bhagavan from the oral instruction bindu. "I heard" means that I personally heard from the teacher, not from others through transmission. In this way, after showing the compiler with merits, if others doubt "When, from where, where, and with whom did you hear," then combine "At one time" with the previous one. The meaning of this is that, in general, there are four types of time: the time of creation, the time of the appearance of protection, other times besides the two, and the time of dispute. Among them, this is the time of dispute, because the Tathagata turned the wheel of Dharma after becoming a Buddha, and it will be shown below that "Shakyamuni was at the time of dispute." The difference of that time is also the four types of teachers, etc., among which, it was heard at a certain branch time. This also shows that in the sutras, treasures are difficult to obtain, because it is said that it was heard at a certain time, not at all times. Also, this was heard at one time, and at other times
